I want to record the music channels off of the satellite receiver. - Club CDFreaks

On my dtv there are music only channels. I have xp home. I have a cable with the rca plugs on one end to plug into the sat. rec. and the other end is a plug that goes into the mic. jack on the back of the computer. What software should I get or use to record so I can burn them to CD and play them in the car? Should I look for a cable with firewire or usb on the end?

The cable you specified should be all you need,however,you should be putting the cable into the 'line' in of your soundcard,and not your mic,that input is
for just that,your mic. Line in is configured to accept the type of 'y' adapter you described,it takes two channels,merges them into one,and your soundcard breaks
that back into two,once the plug is in.
As far as software for recording,if you have Nero,it comes with an app,called wave editor,which can monitor an incoming signal,to enable you to monitor
what sound is coming in to your computer

Just don't ask the satellite company for help, as they would consider this form of recording to be not fair use. I'm not saying I agree - that is their stupid opinion.
