Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Based on your reply, I'm guessing that you didn't even give it a try...

Here is someone who I can tell gave it a try, because they got the same results as I did when I gave it a shot. A real DRM remover...

I will always prefer FairUse4WM over any other program for two simple reasons:
1) It’s free
2) It doesn’t involve ANY re-encoding of the song; it simply strips the file of the DRM protection/encryption.
Why don't you give it a try... and it wasn't Microsoft that put that site back up... they had nothing to do with it coming back up. Once WMP 11 Beta 2 and FairUse were moved to off shore servers, there was nothing they could do, so the host put the site back up.

And just to give a quick update; yes URGE still works with FairUse4WM using the tutorial described at: http://www.xarus.net/index.php?act=fair_use_4_wm

I have tried the method with winamp and lame_out, but no resulting mp3 is found on the C:\ folder? Does this only work with the Pro (purchased version)?

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Okay, here is what I've tried:
WinAmp - cannot write out to a .wav (because of a license-protected file)
Xilisoft Audio Converter - good program - can't convert license-protected files
Windows Media Player 10.5 (and the above trick using FairUse4WM) - didn't work (can't remember why)

what did work you ask?
1. get tunebite
1.5 SET A RESTORE POINT
2. uninstall all update for windows media player from add/remove programs
3. uninstall windows media player (it is part of windows, on the left... also, doesn't remove windows media player at all, but will reset all configurations)
4. tell windows media player to automatically get licenses for file in the configuration step
5. take tunebite, turn off all programs, and convert the files
6. System Restore to the point you just left

On a side note: DO NOT UPDATE TO WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 11
For me, it did 2 things:
1 - wipe away all license files.
2 - re-architecture my mp3 player (a phillips gogear) so that it would play music better. Take note, this made it so that it would ONLY support music files; not cover art, not playlists, not the data files that it used to. Data files previously on device (movies, backups, w/e it is 30 gig) were still there... but could not be updated.
3 - certain subbing programs also no longer worked

Props to the people here and their help

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Hi Everybody

I got a *.wma file. ried to run it in WMP, WMP downloaded a license, file is playing fine.

Then, I tried processing it with FairUse4WM 1.3fix, and it says: "File does not seem to have a recognizable DRM header". But the computer does have the key!
What to do?

I purchased 2 tracks from Napster on my sis' laptop. I burned those two tracks on CD and inserted that CD in my PC. I then ripped those purchased tracks on my PC using WMP v. 10. I then ran Fairuse4WM and opened the 2 ripped tracks and the other DRM songs. It didn't work. I get "you don't appear to have a lisence for this file" on all the DRM songs and "file does not have a recognizable DRM header" for the 2 purchased tracks. Can any of you help me? Thanks in advance!

Here is the real deal. The downloads have a license on the computer they were downloaded on. You can't transfer them and expect them to play unless you have stripped the DRM.
Put fair use on your sister's lap top and strip the DRM, then you can move them to your computer.
Most of us have been there, done that and believe me that is your problem.
The songs will play on her laptop now but you can be sure that shortly after her free trial expires, they will not play on her laptop.
Alternately, you can get a free trial or buy songs on you computer.

Hope this helps.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

So I have a question... I got Fairuse4WM to work for me (Thanks Skid & others!!) but I use URGE and had downloaded literally over 2,000 tracks (I basically used this as a quick way to convert my existing CD collection as well as replace cd's lost and/or damaged). Is there a faster way to re-obtain the licenses besides playing every track which is the way URGE seems to employ. You can imagine how time consuming that would be.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Well here is a question that seem to not have an answer at any forum so far, but I haven’t tried cdfreaks.com yet.
I have a collection of about 800 original CD music albums that i have backed up for the last 8 years. After every time I restore my computer and put those files back into it from an external HD I have to download the licenses, but, for my surprise now that I bought a new computer and tried to get the licenses again, there was a message saying that I have downloaded the licenses more than 10 times and wont let me do it again.
So here I am with 800 albums, about 15.000 music files which I cannot play. Anyone with an answer for me??

OK, here's a toughy.....

Several years ago, Pepsi had a promotion on Yahoo, where one could download WMAs from Yahoo as part of the prizes one could pick. My rights to the tracks were wiped in the process of upgrading to XP. The link to the "permit" page (http://pepsistuff.yahoo.com/pepsistu...ic/permit.html) is now dead. Is there any way to recover the use of these files, or should I just delete them?

When I have used FairUse in the past, I haven't had to replay each song individually. URGE actually requires that each song is replayed to renew the license?

Are these files you purchased? If so, I'd contact customer support of the music vendor you used and tell them the story. I'd hope they'd let you download them again.

If they do, immediately remove the DRM and convert them to MP3.

I wasn't aware of the download limitation.

This (and others in this thread) are prime examples of why you should remove the DRM from any and all files you have on your PC. You follow the rules and then by some glitch or whatever you suddenly can't play the songs anymore.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

SKidmark says, "To answer your question: you cannot remove DRM protection from files for which you do not hold a license; period."

Is this true? I have a bunch of trial version tracks from Urge sitting on my comp. The trial period is over, can't play them anymore, seems I can't even remove them. Without reading this entire thread, would somebody be kind enough to give me a quick solution here. Can I convert any of this stuff to unprotected files in order to burn to disc?

You must buy a license

Why 85 pages under the title of "How to burn or crack protected WMA files?"

Familiar with the concept of hypocrisy?

People posting in this thread have or expect other posters to already own the licence for any file and you don't have a licence. End of story!

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

I just "love" this people that come to a forum searching for help, then get offended and start calling names, just because other people may think different

On a side note, as justcallmebob said, maybe we need to remind people how things work with your protected files. It's not illegal to convert the files you bought online and get rid of the DRM protection, as long as you are respecting the FairUse policy.
For that, take a converter, like Tunebite (my personal option) or any other converter..and after you downloaded the protected file, take a few minutes to convert it. Better safe then sorry !

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

OK Try this using the windows media player you can burn wma's to a cd then like ,shadow tester said, rip the music using the same program. When you rip the files they will be still wma's but they will be UNprotected. then you can convert them to mp3s with a freeware on the internet. here is a converter: http://www.download.com/Free-WMA-to-...-10494268.html

The method you describe needs to many things to be done. If you are a person that constantly downloads music from the internet, you will find this pretty annoying.
For 20 Euros, I got Tunebite and it does all those operations with one push of a button..I think I got a better deal(time/energy)

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Guys, I think I have it, and it really only took a quick 20-minute-or-so search online to find something that works. I actually found it a while ago when I wanted to convert a track from itunes but didn't want to pay for the program just to strip that one song (the trial version only converts the first 30 seconds of songs). I found it again since I now need to strip a lot of songs because I got a Zune and my old mp3 player was full of licensed songs from Rhapsody (which I don't think works with the Zune). I went ahead and paid for the program since I feel its worth it (only about $15, and for $25 you can get a version that converts tracks faster, which might be useful if you need to strip a lot of tracks and don't want to wait...which is another reason why I'm done with programs like Replay and Total Recorder that require that you play the songs as they record).

It's called WMAConvert.

http://www.soundtaxi.us/wmaconvert.html

I used it all last night on both tracks from Rhapsody and Yahoo Unlimited, and it works great. I transferred all those songs to my Zune this morning, and they play just fine. I know from using the trial that it works with tracks from iTunes, as well. On their site, they list pretty much every program out there with copy-protected tracks that it works with, such as Musicmatch (which will be discontinued anyway) and Napster. You can change what quality songs convert to, which I recommend. I converted all my songs to 320kbps because I didn't like how most of the lower conversions sounded.

If you're going to try to use it with Rhapsody and you have Rhapsody 4.0, you're going to need to get tracks to download to your computer as .wma files rather than .rax. I also found how to do this with a quick internet search.

@nunyabiz: Do not advise members to obtain illegally distributed serial numbers. Read the rules again that you signed up to.

moderators, if you banned the last guy, delete his post also...it's just stupid spam

Anyway, @nunyabiz

It's really funny that you are advertising soundtaxi, while giving reference on how to do things from www.audials.com , which is the Tunebite site

And another thing, there is no need to force downloading like that with Rhapsody, you can simply choose the download format to be .wma not .rax

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

I know how annoying it is when you buys songs from Windows Media Player and the songs can't transfer to your ipod because of the DRM. I use Protected Music Converter and it works fine for protected WMA files. There is a free trial that limits to 2 weeks. And it will convert the file completely.

And for Rhapsody users, you can download your music as (protected) WMA files by clicking on Tools/Preferences/My Library and select the download format as WMA instead of RAX. Then you can use Protected Music Converter to convert the protected file.

At least it works fine for me.
