Copy the following code into a text editor and give it a .js extension (I use rename.js.) Put that file in the directory where your converted files are dumped and run it from there. It should remove the [NoDRM] tag from all your files.

I don't think I've lost any ID tags or metadata from the files by using FairUse4WM, by the way. I don't know if that what you meant by "losing all of the 'info'".

Hope this helps.

Code:
var fso;

fso = new ActiveXObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject");
var folder = fso.GetFolder(".");

for (files = new Enumerator(folder.files); !files.atEnd(); files.moveNext())
{
var file = files.item();
if (file.name.toLowerCase().substring(0,7) == "[nodrm]")
{
fso.MoveFile(file.name, file.name.substring(8));
}
}

So is it safe to say FairUse4WM is still working? I'm curious how Vista will change DRM management.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

I recently downloaded the URGE program and downloaded about 25 full albums over night.

I've read back through this thread and tried to figure out eveything on my own before posting. I got the fair use program, but I get this message when I try to find the keys: "IBX Version 11.0.6000.6324 isn't supported yet". Could somebody tell me what my problem is?

I also tried the WMA convert link and it seems to work great, but it only does the first 29 seconds. It says I need a license code to do the entire song, but I don't know what that is.

It still works for me . . . but I'm not messin' with Vista until I'm forced to so I'm not sure how it works with Vista. I heard the latest version of MuvAudio works with Vista.

The idea of actually needing 4GB of RAM to get the most out of the OS is pretty scary. Makes my 1.5 GB of RAM look a little puny.

I haven't heard about the URGE program. What's the scoop with it?

What version of WMP are you using? Are you using XP or Vista?

You should just need a single license key to play one WMA file to enable the FairUse program to work for you.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

The link here doesn't seem to work for Tunebite. Here's the site:

The site offers a free demo, but only for 5 days. Any1 here know where to get the software for free, not a demo version?

It's not really a good idea to ask about cracked software on here . . . that's the best way to get on the mods bad side.

URGE requires you to download WMP 11 . . . I haven't heard too many good things about it so I think I'll stick with my current music sources.

I tried out this program just to see how well it did compared to the likes of MuvAudio and Tunebite. Wow… let’s just say it doesn’t live up to its 13x speed that’s boosted on its sales page. Also I find it really funny that WMAConvert is nothing more than Sound Taxi with a new name. Is this because Sound Taxi received so much bad press about how awful their software was that they thought changing the name might increase sales?

Poor WMAConvert has an identity problem:
http://fidex.biz/
http://www.wma-convert.com/
http://www.soundtaxi.info/

Also just to bad mouth the WMAConvert/Sound Taxi team a bit more… notice how on the bottom of their web pages they are trying to grab the attention of search engines for all the keywords they list. This worked back in 1995, but not anymore (so much so that I think WMAConvert got itself banned from Google). Now I can’t “prove” they are banned from Google, but you’ll notice they do not show up in the search engine at all: http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...dconvert%2ecom Also their Page Rank is zero. My initial assumption was that this was a new domain / new product; but no it’s listed on many download/shareware web sites and the domain was registered back in March of last year.

Thanks for this info. I fell into the trap of downloading and installing URGE first which of course updated my Windows Media Player to the latest 11 build (which is FairUse4WM incompatible as of right now). I tried the tutorial you posted thinking it wouldn’t work (yeah I’m a pessimist) but to my surprise and delight it worked, and continues to work, flawlessly.

I will always prefer FairUse4WM over any other program for two simple reasons:
1) It’s free
2) It doesn’t involve ANY re-encoding of the song; it simply strips the file of the DRM protection/encryption.

However if I had to choose an alternative it would be Tunebite hands down. Not only does their software convert up to 4 songs at once, but their latest version (version 4) allows for an acceleration factor up to 3 times (up to 2 times if using WMP, which most likely you are). Their new version also doesn’t load up a WMP window as well during the re-encoding process (I hated that) so now it’s all “behind the scenes.”

I personally went with the Platinum version because it allows for video processing too (I download TV shows occasionally from iTunes). Personally I think the price is steep at $46.90 but here is a link (http://tunebite.com/tb4emplatmpeg4) for 55% off (for a total of $21.10). I know I sound like a Tunebite sales person here (honestly I’m not) but if you HAVE to choose an alternative to FairUse4WM this should be it.

I just saw an ad for URGE today on MTV so I thought I would give it a test drive. I have to say honestly hands down URGE is the best music subscription program I’ve seen to date (I’ve used just about all of them: Rhapsody, Napster, Virgin Digital, Yahoo! Music). The only downfall is yes, it does require WMP11 (this can be a non-issue though with the above tutorial). The coolest feature is their search which displays results in real time (narrows down the list as you type in the search box) which looks like it might be coded in AJAX. I believe they are still working out some bugs, but I haven’t noticed anything yet personally (fast download speeds, fast searching, etc.). At $99/yr it is slightly higher than Yahoo! Music but after a couple hours with URGE I decided to make the switch and cancel both my Napster and Yahoo! Music subscriptions. Microsoft is also backing MTV/VH1/CMT (Viacom) and trying to make this the rival to iTunes. If any company could do so, I think Microsoft and Viacom are defiantly a good fit.

All for now...

Well thanks for the obvious disregard to read ANY of this thread (I mean come on... at least read the last 3 pages or so).

I’ll be nice and give you a pass this time though. To answer your question: you cannot remove DRM protection from files for which you do not hold a license; period.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Noteburner is cr*p

it's like old Tunebite, when it only converted files in real time !

there's nothing i can do to make FairUse4WM work for me...

so i am relegated to sticking with trusty old TuneBite...til something better comes along..

peace...

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Doesn't 2092 replys makes you wonder if this thread is full of bull shit ???

If there was any way you could remove drm from pay mp3s you would probably be busted by internet police and this thread wouldn't take forever to be answered.
And if that day comes drm protected mp3s would stop to exsist cause every internet cop probably looked at this thread at some time.
If every 12 year old dude could remove drm from media just by installing some LEGAL SOFTWARE program there wouldn't be any profit for sites that sell mp3s and no logic.
There are many types of protections, but what you doing here isn't hacking(removing, getting rid of) drm.

Here is what you can do(and you are doing):
YOU CAN PLAY SOUND AND RECORD IT(no big deal)

Programs that remove drm are only possible in the mind of imaginer that thinks that he knows what drm is.

Just wondering... did you bother to try this or not?
http://www.xarus.net/index.php?act=f...e=instructions

A ton of people have gotten it working and it removes drm at the rate of about 3 sec. per song. I think thats a lot better considering it doesn't decrease the audio quality. Give it a shot and maybe you'll become a believer.

No offense, but I don't think you know as much as you think you do about drm. It is removable. You can look at the letter Microsoft sent to this kids host which got him shut down for a day until the kid put that site back up.

Give it a shot.

I was the one that originally brought up URGE and I still have it. Are you saying there is a way to use FairUse with it?

Damn they are nice there at microsoft. And after that little incident with Microsoft he is free and has his site back up and updated. really funny.
Didn't you realized for just a moment that this guy is just collecting fame ?
FairUse4WM is a lot like Freeme or Unfuck years before this program saw the light of day.
What FairUse4WM does is open the keys you received when you bought a album. The keys are stored on your pc.

You are really letting yourself go thirsty over the water.
when you PAY MONEY & subscribe to a site and you PAY for the song/album and you can LISTEN to it, than the files arn't drm protected anymore.
Real drm files are only accessible for a hacker that downloads the files and doesn't subscribe and doesn't pays.
Some sites even provide drm files to download, but you have to pay before you can listen, but you can download them before you pay anything.
If you let them screw you its your own fault that you can't burn your album when you bought it. (i don't know maybe you should pay once more to be able to burn them)
And do you want to pay once more ? Than you go and install a SOFTWARE program to remove your imaginary drm protected files when the same software will give you a error message if you try to convert a REAL drm file.

Well now jkvato you are the man much respect for the code BECAUSE THE CODE ALWAYS KNOWs. Hehe its the matter of if you you know or not I guess well um I have tinkered with Audacity and wma files with a little success I hate to pay for a program I will only use once in a while so I got the freeware hehe it's all about how you import it raw data :0 DRM is just another example of planning things to become obsolete to sell more obsolete things to sell more obsolete.... xD
