Mine crashed a few days ago, and it won't work anymore. Everytime I try to convert anything, instant crash...
Guess it's back to Tunebite

Shoudn't you guys make such a post in the announcement area or smth like that ? This thread is about smth else.
Come back here when your product is finished and tested, don't use a community of users to test your product for free while you are selling it. A bit unfair IMO.
Can some moderator move this announce, pls ?

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

I apologize if the posted offended anyone. As with all of our "beta" versions, those willing to help test, receive free versions of our software, though we don't announce it directly.

Ihave tried to move this post, but can seem to find a way to modify or move it. If any moderator reads this, we would appreciate if you could move it to a more appropriate thread.

In reading the last few pages of this thread, I think you are quite right. I do apologize.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Just renew the licenses of the at least one of the songs . . . it should work after that.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

I haven't been reading this forum long so someone else may have brought this up. If you're having trouble finding or installing the fairuse software and you don't need to convert large batches, just burn the protected WMA files onto CD then import the CD into itunes. Itunes will convert into several formats including mp3. Itunes will not directly convert the WMA files from the harddrive and the conversion takes the same time as the track length.

I did this with protected WMA files downloaded from MusicMatch and the resulting MP3 files sounded fine to me (but I am not an audiophile). Just use a CD-RW if you don't want to waste a CD.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Here's the deal: My sis is running the free Napster To-Go trial on her laptop. I then transferred her downloade music from Napster on my PC. After reading SkidMark's post a few posts ago, I downloaded Fairuse4WM 1.3 in order to strip the DRMs on the downloaded songs so that I could put them on an MP3 Player I got my father for Christmas. I purchased 2 tracks from Napster on my sis' laptop. I burned those two tracks on CD and inserted that CD in my PC. I then ripped those purchased tracks on my PC using WMP v. 10. I then ran Fairuse4WM and opened the 2 ripped tracks and the other DRM songs. It didn't work. I get "you don't appear to have a lisence for this file" on all the DRM songs and "file does not have a recognizable DRM header" for the 2 purchased tracks. Can any of you help me? Thanks in advance!

Here is the real deal. The downloads have a license on the computer they were downloaded on. You can't transfer them and expect them to play unless you have stripped the DRM.
Put fair use on your sister's lap top and strip the DRM, then you can move them to your computer.
Most of us have been there, done that and believe me that is your problem.
The songs will play on her laptop now but you can be sure that shortly after her free trial expires, they will not play on her laptop.
Alternately, you can get a free trial or buy songs on you computer.

Hope this helps.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Yes there is a way Play the Wma's from the computer through the digital M Audio CO3 this device will strip away the protection, while recording the track on to a Sony MiniDisc player. After that I just play the track MD digital back into the computer and convert to MP3 using Creative or Raptor.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

I have done it... But its a real pain, but it requires just one program: Audicity !
Google it for the program, its completely free.
You open it, turn down the sound from the computer to about 30% and Media player down or the program you use, and record first and then play, don't do anything. When its done, you stop it and with Audicity(Its a sound editor... very nice some say its close to Sound Forge) and clip it to the right length, and use the little... What do you call them they look like 2 mini baseball diomonds in the upper left corner, then export as a mp3, wav, or ogg vorbis. You first need the lame_enc.dll, seperate, but its pretty easy.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

FWIW, for several years now I've been using a prog called 'TotalRecorder' to convert any sound my PC can make into MP3. It installs an audio driver that can intercept most any stream on its way to the audio chip. That means that it can record quicker than real time, in fact as quick as the source can stream. As an example, I can convert an 8 hour Audible book to MP3 in about an hour (8X realtime, including re-encoding). iTunes go about that quick too.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

So...About a year ago, I used the Winamp and Lame approach and converted over 3000 songs downloaded from napster without a problem. Then, I cancelled napster and went on to other things....

I recently started using napster again and for whatever reason, the winamp and lame method doesn't work anymore. I don't know if i need an older version of winamp or a newer version of lame, or if this method is shot all together now.

So, I've been using FairUseWM 1.3 and it works, to convert to .wma's (without the DRM) then i've been using Switch to convert those unprotected files into mp3's.

2 problems... ONE, its a pain in the butt to covert everything twice... and when i use fairuse, it changes the file name and puts a [NoDRM] in front of every track and i lose all of the "info" (like on itunes)

any advice??? this site is awesome, btw
thanks,
NED

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

perhaps this was mentioned and I missed it.

http://www.wma-convert.com/

Of course it costs, but the free trial seems to have worked wonders, except of course with only the first 30 seconds of the song.

Any input/opinions on this?
