tunebite is still the best solution to my knowledge. I would like to see more user control in the encoder, though. Like being able to choose more LAME options, or just converting straight to WAV format... I e-mailed the author and never got a reply.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Sorry if this is a bit off topic but I since about 1 month ago my protected WMA files now allow me to burn them up to anything from 150 to 220 times as a AudioCD and allows me to synchronize them up to 305 times.

Yet the music site i get them from says i should only be able to burn them to "CD" 3 times and has no mention of being able to burn them as a AudioCD.

So my question is this is this right? the amount of times I can burn them as AudioCD etc, and if this is what is the use of having protection on music files if i can just burn them as a audiocd them rip the songs of to mp3.

I am using WMP 10 on Windows XP home with SP2

Not quite that simple... We're talking primarily about music that has protection against burning, too...

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Hey guys,

I just d/l'd some songs from Walmart's music site and was trying to figure out how to convert/burn as many times as I wanted.

I have used Winamp 5.06 to sucessfully change the .wma file to a .wav file. I was then able to use Nero Wave Editor to convert to .mp3 format with success...no license required. This is how I did it.

1. Load the files that I wanted to convert in Winamp's playlist.
2. Make sure that repeat is off.
3. Goto Options>Preferences>
4. Select Output under Plug-Ins.
5. Select Nullsoft Disk Writer plug-in...this will convert any song played in
Winamp to a .wav file.
6. You can select the Configure button on the bottom to select the
save location, freq., etc.
7. Press play...you will not hear any music, but Winamp will convert
the .wma files to .wav in the directory that you selected with the
Configure button.
8. TADA!!!! You will now have a .wav file that can be burned, converted or
whatever you want to do with it...the best part, no protection!

I have a laptop and a desktop hooked up on a network. I tried to play the .wma over the network from one computer from the other, but was not able to since the desktop had the license. Once I did the above steps, I can now play over the network.

***** NOTE ***** Once you are done converting your .wma files, make sure that you go back into preferences and change the output plug-in to DirectSound output. If you don't, any song you try to play will be converted to .wav

I used Nero 6's Wave Editor to convert to .mp3 format.

I hope this helps!!!!!

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

It's very easy to do but you need to setup your audio card to record what you play.

1) Go into control panel and get to the recording options. Select "Record Master" as the input (the name differs from card to card).

2) Play the file and record it with Cool Edit or any audio recording app.

You'll have a 1:1 copy as a wav w/o DRM

Just thought I'd say, I liked the way it worked that I actually bought it

Essentially, it does what you suggest, hqs, but it installs a plugin to Windows Media Player that grabs all the track information (useful for me cos i'm downloading loads of songs from Napster) which would take ages doing it manually.

Thanks for the tip, homer6969

In case you were wondering, this is a Napster 30-day trial license (good luck trying to burn it any other way):

Gues what folks....this method actually works

I read this and tried it...and then looked for the output files...played it back in WMP 10....and it bloody worked...

One thing to note....in the configuration menu, you have the option of converting the resulting file directly to MP3....no need to go through the extra conversion process. Instead you can use that time to set your tags up using whatever method you prefer .

Podwarrior....you have my undying gratitude ....you're a frickin' genius for real .

And thanks to the rest of you for trying your hardest to crack a solution .....cause I payed too much money for this CD to be stuck with unusable files on my PC .

I used Winamp 5.07 BTW.

But still not for standard Napster files that have simply been downloaded, and are not burnable... Analog re-recording (via Tunebite or otherwise) is still the only solution that we've seen for these.

Homer6969,

This is a great sharing!

It's working perfectly for all protected WMA files. Right now I can enjoy the great music without any limitation.

Thanks so much!

I don't understand all the fuss. You should be buying CD's rather than crippled, lossy audio files.

Why spend anything upto $40.00 for a cd out of the shop when you can buy the same cd online via audio files for $15.00 at least here in Australia thats the prices.

Sure you may not have the nice cd cover but then you only look at that maybe once or twice and you may not get the cd either but what they cost 50c each if that. I know what I would prefer to do with the $25.00 I save from buying music files online and thats keep it in my pocket and not give it to some joe blow at the record shop buying at the shops.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Well, you'll be fucked up the ass when you eventually have to format your computer or transfer the music to a new computer, if you don't remember to manually backup and transfer the licenses. And whatever media you burn/transfer the songs to will eventually deteriorate or become completely unreadable (usually within five years). A factory-pressed audio-CD, on the other hand, will last the rest of your life.

Not only that, but you can phase an audio-CD however you want, be it to PC in MP3 format, to audio-cassette, to MiniDisc — and you're always getting high quality because your source is the best digital version of the music you can get aside from the studio masters. With WMA you already have a lossy copy, so when you transcode it to MP3 or MD for example, you lose even more quality. Or worse yet, you may not be able to transcode at all, since most sites that offer downloads in WMA format use "Digital Rights Management."

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

For ME personally, i'm not gonna be listening to the same song for the rest of my life... i burn CDs to use it temporarily until new songs come out and i wanna burn those... in this case, me using tunebite will be financially better off for myself... i dun mind a quality loss... but for OTHERS, if they really want it perfect quality i guess they would buy the CDs...

for quality loss, my human year can't tell the difference between audio CD quality and music made by tunebite...

Well, as said before, you can try the cheaper tricks instead of paying for a program that does the same: Winamp write to disk plugin or the other one recording what you here (only on some soundcards, mine can't do it)
