Understandibly, I'm getting frusterated! I want to bypass the Napster drm! Please help! Anything (of help) is beyond appreciated! Thank you!

disable windowblinds. I was having the same problem. Virtuosa doesn't play nice with windowblinds.

Of course it is moot now. unless someone figures out why it doesn't work anymore, and comes up with a workaround.

I am playing with it, but haven't had much luck.

I have been up and going for 2 weeks, so i know that it worked for some time. But now something has changed.

I wonder if something in Virtuosa is the blame. It would be interisting.. if someone installed Virtuosa on a computer now, using the old copy of virtuosa... and don't let it access the internet, via zonealarm.

I wonder if that would do it?
any one try that ?
Napster updated the DRM to encode it into a form that Virtuosa cannot decode.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Hi. i kno very little about protection and im quite computer illiterate, but i dont think napster have done much about it. Virtuosa have simply updated their program from version 5.0 (which worked) to 5.1 (which doesn't). The problem is finding version 5.0, if u download it off a site, u'll find that u actually downloaded 5.1 cos theyve changed all the links.
from now on, im just burning them onto a cd using WMP, then ripping them back onto my computer, but iv changed my settings so that it doesnt protect my music when i burn it on. seems to work, and im just gonna keep on renewing my napster trial.

I don't think that is the case. I am still showing that it have version 5.0. As i said it worked for over 2 weeks. then it just stopped. My about screen still shows version 5.0.

Let me say this... Is there ANYONE out there who is still able to do it? If so then maybe the computer is not connected to the internet and it didn't auto update, or something. If not, then it is in fact Napster that changed. But that doesn't take into account that Virgin Digital doesn't work either

I am thinking that the different players are licensed for ALL the sites where one can download DRM music files.
I think somehow the license was changed and not renewed for the copy of Virtuosa that used to work. In other words, all the music players have the same license.
Did anyone convert files from Virgin before and after Napster stopped working?

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

As i type i am playing a album from napster i downloaded (not bought).

I am usuing tunebite(I downloaded the trial, then just got a serial for it by downloading one),And it seems to be working so far. The songs that tunebite has got so far, when i click onto properties,it says the songs are not licensed, and they are now MP3's now.I'll let ya know if i can burn to disc after the al;bum is finished playing.

I just tried converting again today, and still.. smooth as silk.
My computer is always connected to the Internet but I haven't updated anything. This is a screenshot of the conversion dialog just before.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Finally here's the conversion dialog with an open calendar to show it was done a few minutes ago (no it wasn't photoshopped!)

Notice on the left panel, it shows the WMA files and the completed MP3 files.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Kucing's method is a no-go from here with a fresh install of Virtuoso and Virgin's Digital Music player/new account. The same 0% issue using Virgin.

The only thing that -may- be different are the Virtuoso versions Kucing is using. The original file lengths of what is considered the "old" and "new" version may be helpful, because there are dozens of "old" versions flying around out there which are actually the new version mislabeled. The original link for the "old" version Kucing indirectly referenced with a link is no longer available, so it's hard to tell if we're discussing apples and apples or apples and oranges.

I personally suspect Kucing's experience may be an anomaly as I have not seen anyone else verify it yet.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Kucing,

I'm not sure these questions "matter" but...
With the download service that you're using, did you select an option to allow transfer to portable devices? Wondering if that matters...

I have a copy of the "original" virtuosa (several different versions, in fact) please check the file size of the one that you used (attributes, etc) so we can try to use the same one.

You mentioned that you're using a firewall - which one?

Do you have autoupdates selected in Windows? And FINALLY, are you using WM-9 or WM-10???

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to figure this out!

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Let me start by posting the Virtuosa installer information.

If somebody could give me some space on a server, I would be happy to upload the installers for everybody. But I don't want to violate the TOS of this forum by posting external links.

No bowrat, I'm not using a "Napster-to-go"ish download. Just a regular protected WMA file.

See the size above

Zone Alarm - standard free edition, I'm poor!

Yes, I have autoupdates on, and I have WM10 installed but never use it. I use winamp & iTunes to play files on my PC. When I installed Virtuosa, I answered "yes" to install DRM. I don't know if this matters or not.

Hey, no problem. I'd really like to help everybody here.. but I'm not sure what's going on myself..
Like I mentioned before, if anybody can show me a place where I can upload large files, I'd be happy to do it then send you the link via email.

Can you PM me your email address? I will try to send you the old virtuosa first (15 meg file), I hope my email server will allow that. Or I can place the file at putfile and email you the link.

If none of this works, we'll just send our "orders" for tunes to Kucing. :-)

Very interesting.. perhaps we should start a new thread for Kucing's idea... get rid of all the n00bs and we can do some real investigating.

Sure thing.. I'll even give you a discount. Just .49 per tune... lol!

I'm working on this with two other members. We want to share the love by getting this to work for everybody!
We're trying to install my version of Virtuosa on a clean computer. If this works, we'll email a download link to anybody who wants it.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Both my red installer and blue installer compare with kucing's in Mb but are slightly of in bytes so there is no way to say that I am using the same files kucing is.
The only thing is the original red installer worked for a while.

To further narrow this down, my red installer was out of the "RIPPACK".

kucing, we are all crossing our fingers for you!!

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Hi guys - just looking into this as well (as my Virtuosa stopped today!!) and got some free tools from sysinternals to do a bit of checking.

1. Running ethereal, no traffic passes from the PC to MS etc when starting to play a DRM protected track
2. There seems to be a crypt.dll file that is called a lot, along with the reg key DRM (\software\microsoft\DRM) everytime WMP plays a DRM track
3. Tried messing with the track header itself to no avail

I have backed up my DRM keys so tomorrow will have a nother fiddle.
Hope we crack this together!
