| Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files? I can say I have taken a serious look at all the posts in this thread. Here are my troubles. Virtousa 5.0 (I'll call it simply "V") off from download .com worked fine with the fix... went to gold. No problem by following the advice that your V 5.0 icon needs to be red box(with little blue ball inside), not a blue(and skyblue) thumbnail. I am using a group of wma's that is anywhere from 200 to 900 min long. (Online Audio books from a library) My hard drive space is no probelm. I have clearned out the recycle bin and have the conversion taking place inside an empty 40 GB partition. The file gotup to almost 2.5GB during the first phase of the conversion. (I'd refresh the folder to see the file size change every 30 or so seconds over the 4 min conversion time) As CPU intensive as this program is I even let it sit untouched while I did the conversion to be sure my refresh wasn't messing the process up. The file has a .tmp2 extension. I tried going back to the 3.96.1 dll in the plugins folder after I got my first V failure. No joy. ( a beep and then nothing, the V prog says the MP3 cannot be found and a system search confirms the ouput file was never created) I know this is a huge file size, but xp should be able to handle the file size. I did a search and found that 1 TB is allowable at least in theory. I followed joes? reccomended settings of 128 bit and cheking the tag option. A.) Has anyone else tried taking a really long song and run into this problem? I can leave the web site info to get the free audiobook access (21 day license for wmas) if anyone else wants to see if they can get it to work. ----------------------------- On a sadder note I had winamp working. I do not have AOL (I hate AOL). I had the conversion proces working at the 1:1 rate for 4 files and then shut the PC off for the weekend while traveling. I turned it back on and the winamp method isnt working anymore. I even tried uninstlling winamp and going back to 5.05 version and reinstalling the plugin. A 1:1 ratio is fine with me, I can convert in my idle time. b.) I am thinking of doing a system restore to see if whatever changed can be undone. (My winamp did have the check for updates enabled, but it is still a 5.05 version and it has not asked me to update) Does the update to block LAME MP3 happen silently or is it more likely that I am missing something. 4 went well, now none are? So: c.) Is there a way to split the huge WMA before conversion? d.) Is there a way I can reset WINAMP to go back to 1:1 conversions? E.) Is there a way I can trick NERO or some other WAV converting program into thinking I have 10GB CD-R drive that I can then rip to MP3 in a slowwer process? ( by having a virtual CD burning drive?) F.) I missed the specifics of the winamp "stacker" method, unless it is under a different name or is the same as the process above. Can I have the post number for the tut? I think the main solution to any Virtuosa problems is having the exact version that works, which is the one that was on download.com. I have given out this .exe to a friend and he went gold and his works fine. He is on SP2 and I am not if that makes any difference... but in any case I think if everyone had the correct installer it would work fine. | |

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files? What will be the problem if I convert the files at a speed great than 128Kb... I have converted some at 192kb, burned them and listened (on a real nice system) and they sound perfect. Should I not worry then? Oh and I upgraded to gold and it is working fine... 11,000 tracks downloaded later... this conversion is taking AGES!

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files? well chesspupil, i am not an expert on this kind of stuff bro, i wish i could help. but i think there is a tool out there that will let you split up the large file into...say 4 sections, hen you can convert them. Then once you get them converted, i think the tool will allow you to put them back together again. seems like alot of work though.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files? Chesspupil, Install a firewall on your computer, such as Zonealarm. Block Winamp from contacting outside world (internet). You should be okay afterwards. No need to re-install. I have never tried the V method, so I don't about that one. Jceaser

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files? So now that the download.com one doesn't work, is there some sort of step-by-step method for using Virtuosa to convert? I have been following the thread for a long time but have only just found out how to sign up for the free trial from down here in New Zealand (using a US proxy), except I don't want to sign up until I know a fail-proof method for getting this to work.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files? 2 Questions previously asked that I would love answers to 1. What happens to the files on your computer if you cancel the trial. Can they still be "converted"? I would think so, but not sure if you have to let Napster "pull" the licenses from your computer. If they're still there, why not download - download - download, then convert later? 2. What will be the problem if I convert the files at a speed great than 128Kb... I have converted some at 192kb, burned them and listened (on a real nice system) and they sound perfect. Should I not worry then?

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files? I was coming close to the end of my 14 day trial, and have got plenty tracks, so have cancelled it. Initial observations: * My subscription is still active until the 14 days have passed, so for the moment I can still download. * I can still play the tracks in Windows Media Player. * I can still play and convert tracks in Virtuosa. * I cannot currently play the tracks in Winamp. I don't know if this is related to cancelling the subscription (I wouldn't think so). Can other people still play the tracks in Winamp? Or has the Nullsoft license been revoked? I assume Winamp sends a player ID/version code when requesting permission to play a song. I'm pretty sure Winamp can't update itself without prompting the user.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files? Sorry, yet another post from me, but I think it's important. Nullsoft have release 5.08e: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....hreadid=208656 I guess that as soon as this was published, the license from previous version was revoked. I installed 5.08e (in a separate directory) and my Napster downloads now play again, but 5.08e gives an error message whenever you try to play DRM content through an output plug-in other than DirectSound (even Wavout isn't allowed). So it seems the Winamp method is dead. I'm pretty sure the Virtuosa method will be killed off soon too - the only reason it hasn't is because Winamp has had all the attention so far.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files? Hey everyone, I am new to this forum and I could use some help. I want to try this virtuosa method, but I cannot find the old version of the program anywhere. Every website redirects me to the version 5.0 trial link on virtuosa.com. Does anybody have the install file for the old version that works?
