Are you using the Virtuosa method? If so, uninstall Virtuosa and reinstall. Should fix the problem.

Which bin did you delete? Hopefully the right one. (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Napter\bin\DB30.bin) you're also better off renaming it BACKUP-DB30.bin or something so you have it if you need it.

Try downloading and running DB2Reset from http://supportresource.info/

Generally all files work while you're a active subscriber to the Napster service, so to answer you're question: no.

But you're best bet is to just convert them to mp3 ASAP to releave any headache.

yeah, have been from the start. reinstalled several times, even tried reinstalling virtuosa 4.20 - no dice. i rolled back the wmp version to 9.0, but for some reason, now i can't even play the WMA files. installed necessary codecs, restarted several times with no luck.

about to (SIGH) reinstall WMP 10.0 and see what happens with the 10x reinstalled virtuosa. this definitely blows - any ideas?

can anyone tell me the difference between dvd+r and dvd-r

and also, does anyone know of a program that allows you to burn either dvd-r or dvd+r with just a plain cd burner.

Actually, I can no longer play ANY downloaded WMAs off napster. I'm not sure, maybe it's an account-related issue. I can download them, but can't play them: cannot stream them in napster and can't play them in ^ANY^ media players. Other wma's work fine.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated right about now-

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Hey guys-
Thanks so much for this method. I currently have 5700 songs to convert but when I use virtuosa I have a problem. It will let me do individual songs but if highlight ALL 5700 songs and try running the conversion then Virtuosa just seems to stop. I have waited like an hour thinking that it might just take it a really long time to start but when I check the status using ctrl+alt+delete it says the program is not responding. How long should it take to start when highlighting so many songs?

By the way Joe you mentioned 7000+ songs downloading in addition to the 3700 already downloaded. You must have very eclectic taste cause that's a TON of music. Props to you!

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

when you converth them in virtuosa, only import 500 -800 at a time to convert, no need to import them all at once. and it will take about 5 min to import them depending on your computer then highlight them all and hit convert, it will take about 10 min for it to get going. then you are home free

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

cane the most i have ever preloaded for conversion is around 550 and it took aprox 20 mins before it started processing the files. So 5700 songs would take a realllllyyyyyy long time depending on the processing power and available ram ur system.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Aha! Thanks guys. I've already imported all the songs. Should I export them (if that's possible) before trying to convert because with 5700 songs imported it won't even let me convert 100 songs at a time.

Sorry, but this thread isn't really an appropriate place for simple things like that. Try the Newbie Forum.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

So I kept deleting more and more songs until finally it works. Looks like I'll be converting about 400 songs at a time. When the first batch is done do I delete them from Virtuosa so that it doesn't affect the next group (memory wise)?

Winamp>Stacker>Lame

I'm using the Winamp 5.08 to Stacker to Lame Plug In method and have a question. My output file is the same size as the Napster file and have a .wma extension. Shouldn't they automatically have the .mp3 extension?

I'm getting 128kbps but since the file sizes are about the same I'm assuming Napster WMA's are 128 also? Am I missing something?

The "good news" is I'm keeping the song tags!

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

The Napster WMAs are 128kbps, so if you encode to MP3s at that same bitrate you will get files of around the same size. However, the extension should be .wma.mp3 (a double extension).

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

I have downloaded what I believe to be the proper version of Virtuosa.

I don't get a "File is Secured" message when I try to convert, but the process just freezes at 0%....nothing happens after I tell it to convert.

Can someone tell me exactly what the problem is?

Well I'm getting only the .wma extension. That I can live with if they are in fact mp3's. I changed the extension to mp3 and they played in Window Media Player (is that a decent test?), so I'm not sure. If someone knows a good definative test I'm all ears! If they are true mp3's this still beats the hell out of the wma>wave>mp3 scenario.

BTW, if it matters, here are my lame PlugIn settings....

Resample Not Selected
Joint Stereo
Force Not Selected
Xing/Lame Frame Selected

Bits
Copyright Selected
CRC Selected
Original Selected
Private Selected

CBR, 128, yada, yada, yada

Any different from someone getting .mp3 file extensions out the other end?

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Okay, I got Virtuosa up and converting properly. But now the frustrating problem is that it cannot seem to read-in the track number when it is converting. So it spits out MP3s with Track # as "0", and I have to go back and re-order everything.

Anybody know what the problem here is? Do I need to download a different version of the program or something?
