Virtuosa is the way to go. For two reason a) speed and b) not widly known.

Most people know about the WinAMP process, so it's being fixed ASAP by AOL. (Ref: http://news.com.com/AOL+blocks+music...3-5582618.html)

Well it's been done.

The site that made the WinAMP method popular world-wide has now catched on to the Virtuosa method.

We'll have to wait and see what happens now

Likewise I've got over 2500 stored and slowly coverting through the Winamp/Lame_enc.dll method.....but having a problem with Virtousa telling me the source file is secured....reason, fixes?

....coz i don't mind it being slow and steady....but the clock is ticking...

So one could open up Virtuosa with the track-reading VPL files, then import WMAs into the library. Close and reopen Virtuosa with the transcoding-capable VPL files, and the track info will still be in the library AND you can transcode the files this time.

You could even write a simple batch file to copy the proper .VPL files into the MsWMedia directory for which operation you want to do (import Track Numbers or Transcode).

Of course, this is all just theoretical information.
Using his theory, I found out how to save track info, although it involves installing the new Virtuosa version, then deleting it THEN installing the old version again, so it may not seem worth it to some, but here it is anyway.

Install the new version of virtuosa, then import all the music that you plan on converting. Close the program, then go to the Virtuosa folder in Program Files and copy "Virtuo32.vb" and "Virtuosa" (a CFG file) and paste it on the desktop or some place that you'll remember (I don't know if you need both of these files, but thats what I did and it worked). Then delete the Virtuosa program.

Then install the old Virtuosa version following the previous instructions, open it up and import the same exact music that was imported in the "new" version before. Close the program, then take the "Virtuo32.vdb" and "Virtuosa" (CFG File) that you previously saved and paste it in the Virtuosa folder in Program Files, replacing the ones that are already there. Open up the Virtuosa program and the songs should be there with track info.

There probably is a slightly different way to do it, but this is what worked for me.

Ew too much work. What we need is a way to use the function in the new Virtuosa that reads track information exported into the old version which allows DRM conversions. I tried some things but with no luck.

If you're getting that message then you have the "new" version of Virtuosa. The new version was "fixed" to not allow DRM copying. Go to the above download.com link to download the old version.

Note: both versions are version number "5.0"

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

If you encode tracks sequentially in their album order, then the output files should be in the correct order when sorted by date. Assuming that the numbering begins at 1 and has no gaps, it should be quite simple to write a script which which goes through the files and adds the correct track number. There is a COM library available which reads and writes ID3 tags, so it could be done in VBScript.

You're doing it the long way. You should only need to replace the files that decode the WMAs.

Install the NEW version of Virtuosa, copy the files from the MsWMedia directory (they are both .VPL files) to somewhere and mark them as the "Track" versions (i.e., *.TRK).

Uninstall and install the old version that works for transcoding.

Go to the MsWMedia directory again and rename the .VPL files to mark them as the "Decoding" versions (*.DEC)

Copy the *.TRK versions of the files to the MsWMedia directory.

Now there should be 4 files, 2 *.TRK files and 2 *.DEC files. When you want to import tracks, rename the *.TRK files as *.VPL, then import the tracks. Close Virtuosa, name those files back to *.TRK (careful to keep the different versions straight). Then rename *.DEC to *.VPL and reopen Virtuosa. The library is still intact and you can now decode.

...a simple batch file could take that directory, delete any exiting *.VPL files, then copy *.TRK or *.DEC to *.VPL as needed. Pass a variable in the commandline to say which action you want to complete to totally automate the process.

As I said before, this post is only for informational purposes.

Do you think its possible to rename the files while the program is open? THen it'd make the batch program easier to code..

Hence..

> Copy *.TRK to *.VPL
> Open Virtuosa
> Import Tracks
> Copy *.VPL to *.TRK
> Copy *.DEC to *.VPL
> Encode MP3s.

If the VPL's are only used when importing tracks and decoding, then in theory this should work, making a simple batch script possible.

Hey Zero,

This is not working for me. I messed up and deleted an album when I shouldn't have. After deleting the bin file and rejoining it still states a negatory.
Have any other tricks up your sleeve?

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

I'm not sure if its because i've downloaded so much music or what, but everytime I open napster it takes about 5 minutes and says "Updating your track database"

Any idea how to speed this process up? Furthermore is there a way to delete music from your library in Napster? Since I already have them in mp3s I don't really care if I have them in my Napster library anymore (I have a feeling this would speed the process up too).

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Can somebody help me out. When I try to import a whole folder, it asks me for a license requirement thing and I click yes. The problem is that I have to click yes for every single song and its pretty hard to do this for 5000 songs. Any solution to get rid of this annoyin problem? heres a screenshot

the only non-null field in that "spam" link is the "ref" field which is 4. and where do you get that, asswipe?

GO TO VIRTUOSA.COM

OH MY GOD, WHERE HAS VIRTUOSA.com TAKEN YOU?

that's right:

the "ref=4" is an internal website reference. try and learn a thing or two about the internet and 'spamming' before you talk such shit.

As for those of you who aren't having luck encoding w/ Virtuosa at 128, keep giving it a try. I don't know if it's a system thing or what, but it definitely works for me.
haha... you're pretty loud for a jackass that posted a solution that didn't even work.

The only reason virtuosa works is because download.com hosts the previous version which allowed transcoding. definitely not whatever link you posted.

and btw, you're taking all this way too personally, especially with PMing me your personal opinion, which i'm too apathetic to care about. if you're a teenage girl, I suggest you stay away from the computer when you start PMsing. If you're not a teenage girl... well, you're acting like one

yes./.. redownload those songs... those wma's are outdated in a sense that they don't have the license with the files... i redled all the songs and didn't have to click yes to any of em...

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

bad news folks. as late as last night i was running this without a problem. strangely, i was prompted to updated windows media player to v.10, which i did. i'm not sure what happened precisely, but i can't, for the life of me, convert wma--> mp3 using the method i was using flawlessly just hours ago. i don't know if it's cuz of the WMP update but i can't think of anything else that could've caused this. tried to roll a system restore to no avail. any ideas?
