this will automatically replace your wma to mp3 in its original folder. Now i have heard that there is some kind of problem with napster in doing that, it might mess up the napster program.
Yeah, and Napster won't let you re-download any files once you delete them, which is very annoying. To defeat this, exit Napster and remove *.bin from C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Napster\bin\

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

it works dude, i have been downloading off of napster for a couple of days now. just follow the steps i laid out in the above post and it will work. the thing is you have to replace the dll file. somehow that cuts the time down dramtically, with the original dll file it was taking about 4 min. with the new dll file it takes about 1 min. big diff, especially when you want to convert 5000 songs

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

wow thanks Joe, I understand why mine worked before now (I installed 2 versions over the top of each one and the lame plugin must of still been there)

And yeah your right a 2.0ghz processer (mine) does do it just over 20s.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

joe: You have an "Application Data" directory on your Windows XP Pro system, it's just hidden by default.

Go to "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users" then click "Tools->Folder Options->View" then change the option that says "Do not show hidden files and folders" to "Show hidden files and folders." OK out of that and you should now see "Application Data" along with a sub-dir of "Napster" then "bin"

BTW your above method works... very cool, thanks.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Only downfall I can find with this method is that Virtuosa doesn't appear receive the "Genre" and "Track Number" from the ID3 tag so your new .mp3 files will not have this data.

Not THAT big of a deal, but in burning cds it could be a pain since you'll have to manually arange the tracks according to their order.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

For outputting to mp3 yes I made sure ID3v2 is checked. The data never makes it into Virtuosa though. Add a .wma file to your playlist then right-click and select "Properties" then go to the "General" box. You'll notice the track number is always set to "0". If you open this same mp3 in WinAMP and look at the IDv3 tag it will show the track number. Consiquently, this data is not transfered when Virtuosa re-encodes to .mp3.

Again, not a HUGE deal unless you're worried about organizing music by the order they were arranged on CD.

This method is prefered for it's speed and also because the output file doesn't have "[Opening]" and ".wma" in the filename like out_lame did.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

i see what your saying, hell i will sacrifice the order of a cd anyday for the speed it provides. as long as all of the songs are on there, thats all that matters to me, as i said before when you want to convert 5000+ songs, you want speed. lol, and we found it boys!!!!

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

once you have converted your files you can import them right to windows media player and it will sort them for you by album.

btw: i aint taking any chances on downloading anything else. lol, dont fix it if it aint broke.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Just for everyones FYI the new Virtuosa DOES fix the track problem, however the .wma to .mp3 conversion DOESN'T work... so you'll just have to live with it

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Just registered to share this info with people; The .vpl files in the MsWMedia directory from the new version (the version that WILL grab track numbers but WILL NOT transcode) can be switched with the .vpl files from the old version which WILL transcode but WILL NOT grab track numbers. So one could open up Virtuosa with the track-reading VPL files, then import WMAs into the library. Close and reopen Virtuosa with the transcoding-capable VPL files, and the track info will still be in the library AND you can transcode the files this time.

You could even write a simple batch file to copy the proper .VPL files into the MsWMedia directory for which operation you want to do (import Track Numbers or Transcode).

Of course, this is all just theoretical information.

hey dipshit; the link i used was precisely the link i originally followed to get to virtuosa OFF VIRTUOSA.COM. i simply copied and pasted. i assume if people are on these message boards trying to circumvent high-level digital protections in audio files, they can detect 'spam' and avoid it, or, if they like, search for virtuosa on that esoteric search engine, 'google'

to wit, the link now that i look at it, was:
http://www.virtuosa.com/index.php?re...nerid=&lang=en

the only non-null field in that "spam" link is the "ref" field which is 4. and where do you get that, asswipe?

GO TO VIRTUOSA.COM
CLICK ON "DOWNLOAD" IN THE TOP RIGHT

OH MY GOD, WHERE HAS VIRTUOSA.com TAKEN YOU?

that's right:

http://www.virtuosa.com/index.php?re...nerid=&lang=en

the "ref=4" is an internal website reference. try and learn a thing or two about the internet and 'spamming' before you talk such shit.

As for those of you who aren't having luck encoding w/ Virtuosa at 128, keep giving it a try. I don't know if it's a system thing or what, but it definitely works for me.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Ok - just reread everything, especially joe's most recent definitive post on how to get it rollin.

joe - props on figuring out how to accelerate the conversion rate. i've got a 2+ghz processor and each song was taking 'round 2-3 mins. by using the new dll i imagine i'll be able to cut this to 1/4 of that time. good, great lookin out.

holist -ur first and only post was immensely helpful, lol.

zerosignal - thanks for tellin that fool that i wasnt spamming; if he had continued down that line peeps might have given up on virtuosa and stuck to the infinitely corny method of winamp recording stream /lame/

part of me says we should take joe's post and formalize it, convert it to pdf and put it on the web. this way the max # of people could get on board w/ this in as short a time as possible. the other part of me says horde this information to our own maximal gain. either way, i'm stoked.

Re: How to burn or crack protected WMA files?

Thanks for the link to the older (not by version number) version of the program. This version included a mp3 encoder with it. This was my biggest confusion when downloading the latest version from virtuo$a.com, in that there is no encoder included with that trial.
