[Help] CACTUS Data Shield 100 - Can't Copy!

Hello!

I have an original german cd.
However it is protected with the CACTUS Data Shield 100.
I got this information with the help of ClonyXXL.
Here:
http://myweb.vector.ch/timemix/errorcd.jpg

My Hardware:
TOSHIBA SD M1612
PLEXTOR 10/12/32A

My Problem:
My Plextor Drive does not accept the CD.
Also if I change the settings in PlexTools to "SingleSession".
If I insert the CD, my Plextor Drive try to read, but after some minutes the LED is only flashing in green!

My Toshiba Drive accept the CD after some minutes reading.
However I can only SEE the files, but I can't play them!!
I tried to burn, copy, rip,...nothing was successful!

EAC could copy the tracks into wav files. But this wav files are all soundless!

Programs I used:
I tried it with...
CloneCD
Feurio
EAC
Feurio
IsoBuster

No program is good enough...or my hardware is sucking

Please help me...please...

thank you!

(sorry for my bad english!!)

cds100

The problem is the hardware... but only few readers can read CDS100 v.3 (I remember plextor12/20ts and ultraplex40ts old hardware revision).
Greetings.

I dunno how exactly the copy protection works, but i had a similar case. It worked for me by changing in EAC the extraction method in Synchronised or Burst mode. You can find this option under "file" and then select "drive options". Changing these settings is only useful if the copy protection uses corrupt error information, cause it then "overreads" it.

Good Luck

1) Start CDRWIN
2) Load the cd in your Plex
3) choose "extract disc/tracks/sectors"
4) wait about 2 minutes until the Plex has scanned the CD; the table of contents will make no sence at all, but don't bother
5) select "extract sectors" (choose Datatype: Audio 2352, WAV)
6) rightclick on the final "track" listed (can be either marked as Audio, Data or Unknown). You'll get a small window with the sector info; track beginning and track ending. Remember the track ending sector (LBA xxxxxx)
7) provide the correct values in "Sector selection";
Start: 000000
End: <the value you remembered in step 6 >
8) Hit "start" and wait until all sectors are ripped on your HD. You'll end up with one big WAV-file, which you can cut into individual tracks with any program.
If you would encounter a "read error at sector xxxxxxx" while ripping, you replace the End sector with this value and hit Start again. This happens when there is a small amount of data behind the final track.

It's not as easy as CloneCD, but if nothing works, this is always an option. (worked on ANY audiocd I've tested)

with CDRWin there's only the error: "ERROR LOAD DISC" (with Toshiba Drive)

Or this error:
http://myweb.vector.ch/timemix/errorcd.jpg
I tried it with the IMES 1200AT CD-Reader...it's an old hardware from 1998.

My Plextor is temp. out of order, 'cause the IMES is connected with my computer...
I will try it later with the Plextor drive. HOWEVER I think it WON'T work!!

There are three versions of CDS100: v1, v2 and v3. Given that your Plextor won't read the disc, I suppose it is CDS100 v3 (the behavior you report is exactly that of a plextor and CDS100v3), since Plextors don't have problems with the first two versions. Please report the band-title and label of the disc you're experiencing problems with.

Reading a protected audio CD is almost totally hardware-dependent: if your drive won't read it, software won't help you, not even alcohol, clone or whatever. Next to the (older) SCSI-CD-Roms of Plextor, the only Plextor-writer that is able to read CDS100v3 successfully is the 4824, and only with fw 1.03 and after multiple attempts of loading the disc. Well, this does not help you since you don't have that handy, but your Toshiba should be able to read and rip the disc, provided you use a marker, a post-it note or some tape.

What to do? Look at the reading side of your CD. There you'll see a ring on the disc. Take a post-it note and put it on the CD from the ring to the outer edge of the CD, as illustrated on this (german!!) webpage:
http://www.chip.de/praxis_wissen/unt...n_8725940.html

Make sure it is attached fully, as you don't want the post-it note blown off inside your drive when reading/ripping. For that very reason, also use lower reading speeds. Pop in your CD and you should be able to rip it with your Toshiba. BTW: this won't help with your Plextor, it simply won;t read your disc.

Using the post-it note is safest, but an alternative is to use a black marker pen in the same way. Before you use that make sure you can remove it from your CD with water. You don;t want to ruin your disc permanently.

The protection is hardware dependant. If you have the wrong hardware software tricks won't help you.

Look here for XORFF's hardwarelist and their behaviour with audio protections.

For more info on audio copy protections see the last link mentioned in my signature.

Oops. Forgot to mention that: Thanks to XORFF's for his list.
