DVDs play OK, but no Audio

I recently finished building my new computer (with Asus P5LD2 Deluxe mobo). There are two speakers installed.

I can rip using DVD Decrypter, encode using DVD Rebuilder Pro, and burn using Nero 7. I can then play the DVD on the computer and get a great video image, but no audio. The same thing happens when I play a bought or rented DVD on the computer.

However, home made/bought/rented DVDs all play with video and audio on my standalone DVD player and TV.

I have "Enable CD Audio for this CD-ROM device checked" selected in Device Manager/Properties for the DVD-RW drive. I have "Line Out" checked for the RealTek HD Audio Manager.

I really don't know where I am going wrong. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: DVDs play OK, but no Audio

You seem to have done everything right. Elimination is what remains. Does a cd play o.k in the drive ? If not, it might not be "line out" in the mixer that's requred. You could have "digital only" selected. These imported mixers only "piggy back, usually, on the windows mixer. Open them both and see that what 's happening in the real tec mixer is also happening in the windows mixer. You could have the relevant output muted in the windows mixer and, somehow, it looks o.k in the real tec application. I tend to ditch all these bells and whistles that come with hardware in favour of leaving the basics in windows. Not a fix-it solution, just a starting point. Good luck. regards P.S

Re: DVDs play OK, but no Audio

If it's not a configuration issue as supapete explains then it's possible that you've got no Dolby Digital filter installed so nothing on the PC will recognise that audio.

What do you actually use to play the DVDs on the PC? The likes of PowerDVD should install the necessary codec/filters but I guess some players might not.
