Re: DVD Audio Extractor v2.0.1 released

Thanks for the information, Boskin.

After installation of V. 2.01 the program suddenly crashed every time I tried to start it. Well, I reinstalled V.1.22. Strange, same thing happens! However, the program works in “Compatibility Mode” with both 1.22 and 2.01.

Then I thought it might be an Sp2 issue. So I restored (using Acronis True image) my system till before sp2. Everything works like a charm again.

Well, before I restored my system I made an image of the nonfunctional system, for later use. I now restore it to find out what it is going on. No matter what I do, it doesn’t seem to help, except from starting the program in “Compatibility Mode”, of cause.

For a while I give up, and starts working on some slide shows I’ve prepared for DVD recording. After that I decide to go on with the troubleshooting. Bingo, suddenly “DVD Audio Extractor” works, and I really didn’t do anything! Very strange…. Well, while working with my slide shows I used “Alcohol 120%” to mount some images on a virtual drive, and that seem to make all the difference. Every time I try to start the program without my virtual drive mounted, the proggie crash, but if I mount it, everything works fine. This bug has been there before V.2.01, but by coincidence I just discovered it now. I can’t say that this bug is present on all systems, but it sure as hell is on mine.

Another harmless bug is that my virtual drive always shows up as a Toshiba SD-R5002, but if I disable my real Toshiba SD-R5002, the virtual drive shows up as unknown. However, this has never affected its performance.

How do I burn the audio onto a CD so that I can play it in my car or home CD player? Which is the best encoding/decoding format?

Unless your car-player/stand alone-player supports mp3, you should use ‘WAV PCM’ and a sample at 44100 Hz.

After you have extracted the tracks you can burn them with Nero (Audio profile) or any other suitable program.

It might be a good idea to listen to the tracks on your harddisk before you burn the disc, just to make sure you pick the right tracks for your compilation.

Re: DVD Audio Extractor v2.0.1 released

Okay, I successfully backed-up audio off a concert DVD. Used version DVDAE 2.1.0, title 8, chapters 1-22, which was in AC3 format at 48khz and 2 channels, file size 186 Mb. For output, I used the OGG/Vorbis encoder with Variable Bit Rate. I played this ".ogg" file back with Winamp just as a check to see if I had the right tracks (sound quality is excellant BTW). I have 2 questions:

1. Winamp plays back only 1 track, which has all 22 songs, but I can't individually select which one I want. How do I fix this?

2. One of the output formats is a direct AC3 stream (no enconding, no losses). What can I use to copy this onto a CD? Would this be better?

Thanks

1. Be sure you have checked the “Split tracks by chapter” option.

2. If you want to play the tracks on a standalone player, you’ll have to choose: ‘WAV PCM’ and a sample rate at 44100 Hz. Your standalone will not recognize an AC3 stream.

Ok, I did the 44.1 khz wav pcm. The files are 1.17 Gig. I would like to put these on one disc instead of two. Is that still possible?

No, not really, except if your standalone support Mp3 playback or another compressed format.
If it does that, you could extract the files to the desired format and burn it as a data cd.
