digitally ripping

should i buy a new soundcard just to have a digital input? i mean: could i rip protected cd's with it? i already have a cd reader with both optical and analogic out, and i used the second one to rip a cds200 cd, but would it work digitally? and, if so, what soft should i use?
thnx a lot

I think it's more usefull to get a Plextor CDRW for such purposes. Ripping protected cd's will be much faster.
