Digital out or Audio Out?

Hey everyone.......
I want to connect my Sony CD player to my computer sound card and make a digital copy of all the songs. At the back of mty CD player, there's a "Digital" outlet, and there's also an "Audio" outlet.
The digital outlet has a very funny, square-shaped kind of shape.... and I don't have that kind of adapter to connect a cable to it. Is it possible for me to connect the sound card to the "Audio" outlet instead of the "Digital" outlet if I want to make a digital (not analog) copy? Will it reduce quality?

I think the digital outlet is an optical one. When you go to a local hifi store they can sell you a cable which will fit in, but: Your soundcard has to have an optical in then. You can't put a optical in on a digital in (coax).
When the audio outlet is just one single connection it is a digital one. When there are to (red and white) it is analoge.
You can connect the digital coax with a cable to a digital coax in on the soundcard

You will need the optical cable, and digital in on your soundcard.

The other outlet you describe is analog, and you will lose quality.

You do not need to do this, if you have a CDROM drive, unless the audio disc is copy-protected. What you use to make perfect digital rips now depends on your hardware. If you have a more recent Plextor drive, the new consensus is to use Plextools to rip your audio.

Otherwise, use Exact Audio Copy. Just use the search function, and you will be rewarded by a number of posts on how to rip your audio cds using EAC.

Good Luck!
