But when i started to extract the tracks there is a little glitch in the first 9 seconds of every song.

This could be the new, very aggressive and annoying version of cactus 200, which is also found on the newest grönemeyer cd and is difficult even for plextors.

If you like command line tools, try cdda2wav with the -paranoia option.

You could try the option 'manually detect TOC' in EAC, that might help.

For the grönemeyer, it makes EAC detect all tracks as audio, but doesn't help with the bad ripping quality

well, it helped to detect the tracks without using some tape or a pen but i still get the suspicious positions at 9 seconds. i was using the paranoia option of EAC this time to extract.

guess i´d need linux for that, eh?
seems to be a difficult task, and spending the time using sound forge to fix this isn´t really what i wanted to do

did u have any luck with the Grönemeyer CD?

From what I've understand from the Brennmeister forum, you should have no real problems with your Plextor writer, reading this cd... (if it is protected by CDS200, subversion 12b). Problems are reported regarding track 1 and 11 (with the hidden track in it) and because of pre introduced c2 errors you might find some suspicious positions in the resulted wav-files (which can be solved to some extent by lowering the reading speed).

Did you try CloneCD or Feurio?

burst mode, 4x speed, read command D8

All of the current Plextor recorders and all Plex SCSI-CDROMs are able to extract those horrioble CDS200-versions without clicks and drop-outs.
You can use ExactAudioCopy 0.9 beta 4 for that purpose but you'll have to tweak it a little bit:
a) Install EAC in expert mode in order to get the function Action -> Detect TOC manually.
b) Open the drive settings and select "burst mode", 4x reading speed and "read command D8". Higher speeds may cause drop-outs.
c) Insert the disc and select "Action -> Detect TOC manually". This will take a few minutes.
d) Select the tracks to be grabbed and rip them.
e) Play the WAVe-files before you burn them in order to ensure quality.

On the other hand there's a more comfortable way to achieve good WAVes with the current Plextor recorders.
You need:
a) The lastest firmware (1210TA: V1.10, 1210TS: 1.05, 1610TA: 1.05, 2410TA: 1.04, 4012TA: 1.03).
b) PlexTools 1.13a or higher.
Open PlexTools, go to drive settings, check the box "single session" and choose 4x reading-speed.
Change to the DAE-module and select ignore errors in preferences.
c) Insert the disc, wait until it's recognized and press F5 (refresh).
d) Select the tracks and rip'em.
e) Play the WAVe-files before you burn them in order to ensure quality.

The bottom line for the current CDS200-versions with Plex recorders is quadruple reading-speed. Otherwise there will be distorsion in the sound-files.

The following CDS200-versions (ref. hidden file VERSION.TXT on the disc) have already been successfully extracted in that way:

CDS200.0.4 3.0 build 12a
CDS200.0.4 3.0 build 12b
CDS200.0.4 3.0 build 16a
CDS200.0.4 3.0 build 16c

P.S.: Correction: PlexTools advices, pt. e)

Interesting info XORFF! Thanx for that.

What happens if you rip this CDS protected cd in EAC's secure mode? Why burst mode for reading?

Another thing: any idea why you get garanteed results with Plextools while you need to check the files manually ripped by EAC?

CDS200 & Plex recorders

@Upp3rd0G,

Ripping in secure mode will work, too, but it will take hours to extract the tracks. CDS200-discs are full of artificial C2-errors. In secure mode EAC (re)tries to read those corrupt sectors many times slowing down the process. However, current Plex recorders have an excellent audio-error-correction when ripping at quadruple speed so you do not need the software error-correction of EAC to achieve clean waves.

From my personal experience I'd suggest to check the PlexTools-WAVes, too. You can't be sure that you have got clean WAVes from a CDS200-disc before you've checked that. I'm afraid I've forgotten to mention that in my last posting.

Btw.: The decribed EAC-procedure is a very safe and careful way to extract a CDS200-disc. Some CDS200-versions do not require 4x reading speed but all versions can be ripped perfectly at that speed.

Let go

I believe Bmg uses protections only in some countries.
I'm from Italy, I got this cd but there's no Cds on it.
It seems to be a normal Cd extra.
Greetings.
