Look at the cover or/ and use ClonyXL and Scout to check the protection.

If it says "Copy Controlled" on the CD, it is usually Cactus Datashield 200.

If you own a pretty modern Plextor drive, you will have no problems ripping it with Plextools Professional. Simply tell the software to use "Single Session". This will ensure CDS200 doesn't confused your PC with a corrupted TOC and allow you to view all the audio tracks properly.

First try to rip the CD using EAC, if it hangs or rips extremely slow (like 30+ minutes), then use PlexTools Digital Audio Extraction tool to rip the tracks (with error checking turned down or off).

Next, check for clicking or popping on your ripped tracks, especially near the beginning of the track around 9 seconds. If you are hearing dropouts that shouldn't be there, you will have to re-rip the tracks again at a much slower read speed (e.g. 4X or 8X). In PlexTools, there is an option to slow down the drive. This should eliminate all the noise created by CDS200 introducing fake error checksums in the data stream.

If you are the proud owner of a Plextor Premium CD-writer, you can probably get away with just using EAC on the copy protected (CDS200 at least) "CD", it is capable of handling most of the tracks on a corrrupted CDS200 CDs I own at full ripping speed.

If you have a LiteON 40x or above (with recent firmware on the 40x and possibly the 48x, the 52x can cope with CDS200 e.t.c. straight out the box) then you should have no trouble ripping the tracks with EAC.

In my esperience, I've had to limit the rip speed manually to max 4x on LiteOns (or older Plextors) in order to rip CDS200 later revision protected audio discs withou any gaps at the c. 9-10 second from the start of each track.

You can do this manual set with Nero Drive Speed (it seems to works IMHO more reliably than the setting in EAC, for some reason).

Plextore Premium has no trouble ripping CDS200 discs at high speed. No manual speed limit is required.

I agree that lower speeds are necessary when ripping CDS200, but the models I listed tend to be good at ripping protected music CDS (albeit at 4x).
