| Audio distortion @ 2 same spots on 2 backups? Hi. I was trying to make a backup of a music CD, both copies have the exact same problems (skipping + distortion) at the exact same locations in the songs on the CD. I'm copying the stuff on cheap gold CD-Rs, with CloneCD v4 and ClonyXXL just reporting minimal copy protection. I know bad media might be the reason, but I've never had problems with this batch of bulk CD-Rs with other artists and even if it is bad media, I don't understand why the problems should be at the exact same locations. The original, btw, plays perfectly, so its not because of a crappy original. What is the cause of this problem and how can I fix it? Last edited by Devils Advocate; 17-09-2002 at 00:21. |

| have you tried different (high-quality) media? and have you ripped the tracks to your HD and seen if it had the same distortions?

| Hi nexusJ. I've tried using Feurio to rip the tracks from the original and store them onto my HDD as .wav files, and play them using Windows Media player - it works fine. It also works with Feurio trying to play them analog/digital directly from the original. But Feurio locks up when it tries to rip the distorted track off the inferior copies. (added) Nevermind - I managed to make a working copy using Feurio instead of CloneCD. Now to stash my original where it won't get scratched... Thanks, though. | Which CD? @Devils Advocate, could you kindly let us know which disc you have extracted? This can help us to identify the copy protection. Where did you buy it (country)? Maybe you could also post the record label and the text from the inner ring (e.g. Sony Music, sonopress, ...) Which drive was able to rip the disc successfully? We are always interested to discover new and foreign copy protections in order to help the others to bypass them. THX in advance.

| Hi Xorff. I doubt my problems were due to a new and unidentified copy protection, but to satisfy your curiosity: Artist: Shania Twain Record Company: Mercury Records Inner ring contents: "Made in Germany by Universal M&L" + serial number I ripped it with a LiteOn-40125S drive and I bought it in London, UK. Feurio! managed to copy it fine without hassle, even faster than making an image file with CloneCD. |

| Yes, I know Joe. I'm one of those types of people who won't really believe what is stated as best until I painfully find out why it is so. 2 coasters later, I can see why Feurio! is better at copying music than CloneCD. Although the mechanism that causes CloneCD to fail where Feurio! does not I don't know. Can anyone explain here a little? If CloneCD can copy a copy-protected game CD - which is essentially just a string of pits, I fail to see why it can't copy Audio CDs, which are also a string of pits, albeit in a different configuration. |
