That depends on a lot of things.

Generally, doing what you're talking about, the CD will be better.

The reason old movies are often cheaper than old CDs, I think, is because of supply and demand. There just isn't much demand for old movies.

The old & even new movies r cheaper due to competition.
Our market is very price sensitive. Hence companies r now working for big quantities & making money.
Only problem is u get new movies dvd after 1 month of official release.
Regarding old movies recordings, audio companies convert from their LP.
While DVD's r made from movie tracks from the film print.

For new movies they record in multichannel for dvd & stereo for cd.
Both the companies r different. Audio cd company & dvd making company.
I will rip from those dvd's. I think their sampling rate is quite higher than cd's.
