Problem Burning 4.7 GB of data

I had just gotten a Lite-on 1693S and I also purchased Nero 6.6. I updated Nero to current version 6.6.0.16, and I wanted to burn a data DVD. I expected to be able to burn 4.7GB in a DVD but it seems the yellow and red line in Nero express is only at 4.5GB. I have tried adjusting using the advanced/expert settings, but even overburning a a regular dvd is only allowed up to 4.6GB. What happens to the remaining space. Also when I try to burn a DVD double layer, the yellow marker is still at 4.5GB and the red marker is at 8.1GB. I didn't want to burn a dual layer when the yellow marker is at 4.5GB since I have tried burning a 80-min music file with CDs when the yellow marker is at 74 and the rest of the tracks is cut-off (one song doesn't play until the end).

Is there a way to resolve this? (Nero manual is NO help since some of the things mentioned there doesn't really refer to version 6.6. My Lite-on came with Nero 6.3 and I'm assuming it would still be the same as 6.6 when it comes to not fully being able to utilize the entire 4.7GB space on a DVD).

Re: Problem Burning 4.7 GB of data

Just 'cos it says it's 4.7gb you won't get that amount on the DVD. Nero knows what it's doing (do I really mean that) by limiting it to 4.5gb , actually slightly less than 4.5gb.

There is an explanation for this "discrepancy" which I won't try to explain as I'll probably get it wrong , just accept what Nero (& any other similar app) says.

For the CD you should be able to get just under 80min on an 80min CD. Don't forget that the 80 min includes any inter track gaps.

You can change the limits for CDs that Nero displays though.

What about Dual layer DVD's? The yellow marker is still around 4.5GB?
