NeroVision 4 DVD Menu Button Highlight Problem

I have downloaded the latest version of Nero 7.2.3.2b as of
June 2006. I have created DVD's in several ways and they
all have the same problem, the DVD menu buttons are not
highlighting correctly. I am not new to Nero. I have been
using it for several years, so I have a good knowledge of
it. I have contacted Nero on several occasions and they
are working on the problem. Does anyone else have this
problem? Has anyone found a fix to this problem? And, no
I am not using animated Menus or Buttons.

Re: NeroVision 4 DVD Menu Button Highlight Problem

Could you explain the exact problem so we can try to duplicate it. How aren't they highlighted correctly--what should they do and what are they doing?

Re: NeroVision 4 DVD Menu Button Highlight Problem

The DVD menu buttons are only half highlighted to start with.
------------------------
*********
*********
*********
------------------------
BUTTON *=HIGHLIGHT

Only the buttons on the left can be selected. The next menu
arrow on a multi-menu can not be selected at all. So, you
can not go to the second menu. My settings are:

Video Options:
Video Mode: NTSC
Nero SmartEncoding: ENABLE
Aspect Ratio: 4:3
Quality Setting: SUPER LONG PLAY
Sample Format: PROGRESSIVE
Bit Rate: 1691kbit/s
Resolution: 352x480
Encoding Mode: HIGH QUALITY (2-PASS VBR)
Video Format: MPEG-2
Audio Format: DOLBY DIGITAL (AC-3) 2.0

DVD Menu Options:
Menus To Use: TITLE MENUS ONLY
Layout: LAYOUT 5
Background: 768x576x16mb BITMAP - NO AUDIO FILE
Buttons: NO ANIMATION - NO FRAME - TEXT ONLY
Font: MICROSOFT SANS SERIF - BOLD - 8.0
Header/Footer Text: BOTH HEADER AND FOOTER TEXT USED
Shadow: I USED THE DEFALT SHADOW SETTING
Automatization: AUTO PLAY: DELAY: 30 s ACTION: PLAY 1ST MOVIE
Interactive Colors: HIGHLIGHT: GREEN 50% - ACTIVATION: YELLOW 50%

Re: NeroVision 4 DVD Menu Button Highlight Problem

OK, let's say you are looking at the first title menu on the Select Menu page. There is a white arrow in the bottom right. If that is where you are, you have to use the small icons on the bottom to go to the next menu.

If you hit the next button twice you will go to the preview page, where the remote control is. The highlights should work, as should the white next menu arrow. I actually set up 3 title menu pages and they seemed to work. Highlighting was over the entire button and changed from green to yellow when activated.

While you are on the Select Menu page, hit the more button and you will see some more choices for automation.

Hopefully you are just not on the right page. If you are on the right page for the functions to work and they don't, there may be a problem with your install. Did you use the clean tool before you installed the new version?

Okay, here is the thing. The highlights and NEXT menu buttons
work fine on the Nero Vision preview screen. It is only when
you actually burn the DVD and try to play it on a stand-alone
DVD player or a computer DVD player or even with Nero ShowTime
that you see the problem.

Re: NeroVision 4 DVD Menu Button Highlight Problem

OK, how about you post the NeroHistory log file located in your Core directory. It is a text file you can edit and take out your serial number (may be in several places). Also if it is long, try to remove all but the last few entries where you encountered the problem, you can see where they start and stop. Or just delete it and try the burn where it causes problems.

I guess if it burns correctly, there may be no problems indicated, but we could look anyway. Have you tried setting up Nero ImageDrive and burning an image to use on it? It normally behaves pretty much like a DVD player, and maybe it if does present the problem, you can save some wasted media.

You might also try changing media or burn speed, but we can tell more about that with the log.

Re: NeroVision 4 DVD Menu Button Highlight Problem

I have been working on this problem for months now
with no luck. The only thing I can tell you is that this
problem seems to only occur when using the SUPER
LONG PLAY option under NerVision 4, 352x480 (1/2 D1).
And, I can tell you that Nero is well aware of this
problem and has been for a long time. At least 4 to 6
new releases of NeroVision have come and gone with
no fix to the problem. I guess Nero AG just don't seem
to think it is important enough to fix.

NOTE: I researched the problem and have found what
I think is the cause. When using SUPER LONG PLAY the
DVD menu gets encoded as 352x480 when in fact it
should be encoded as 720x480. You see, it does not
matter what the video titles are being encode as, the
menu should always be encoded as 720x480. I have
reported this to Nero but, as usual, they do not respond
and therefore do not seem to care. Currently, Craig
Campbell at Nero has been working with me to fix the
problem. But, as he is always busy and this is not his
main job, he is unable to dedicate a lot of time to it.

Ha! This is great, finally an answer to this. I just made a post about this specific problem today. Nero Vision 4 is great except for that damn menu bug. Excellent and thanks for the head's up!

Re: NeroVision 4 DVD Menu Button Highlight Problem

Hi - just wondering if there was ever any resolution to this issue? I just started using NeroVision 5 (had previously used NeroVision 3), and the menu buttons will only work if I put them on the right-hand side of the menu. Also have issues with menu pictures being too big - with Vision3, any picture I used, no matter what the original size of the pic, would fit itself to the menu. With Vision 5, I only get part of the picture - say if it was a pic of a person from the waist up, the only thing that shows now is from about the chest up, not the whole picture. I e-mailed Nero support and they are saying it is probably a "faulty filter implementation" and want me to go thru a reinstall of the software - I have no faith that this will fix the problem though! Thanks for any help!
