Nero Vision Express v3.0.1.18 ??

i am exploring the programs that can convert analog/digital from my VHS tapes that are long, like 180 - 200 minutes and wondered if the Nero Vision Express v3.0.1.18 is capable of doing this on Dual Layer Media???

I have a Hauppauge Win TV PVR USB unit that is doing a great job along with my BenQ 1621 External Burner (16X) Dual Layer with my regular conversions that are 60 - 80 minute VHS tapes with the Backups coming out in excellent quality.

Now I have a couple of tapes that are longer and need a proggy to deal with Dual Layer and thus I post this here.

I look forward to replies, thankyou.

BTW, I am simply cloning the VHS tapes and no editing, chapters etc.

Regards.

Re: Nero Vision Express v3.0.1.18 ??

Hi Cleary,

I wonder if you are trying to record you VHS tapes at too high a picture quality.

Typically at full DVD quality, you get 2 hrs per disk. At lower screen resolutions / frame bit rate, you can get 4 (or more) hours per disk. VHS recordings are actually about half the resolution of a DVD recording (300 lines).

Recording at qualities above the original recording (e.g. full DVD quality) does not actually improve the recording unless you use sophisticated software designed to do this.

If you use Nero Vision Express (or programs like Cyberlink's Powerproducer) to record from the WinTV box (rather than the provided Hauppage software), you can set the picture quality to a lower quality setting of which I am sure you will barely be able to tell the difference for VHS copying.

I also have a WINTV (internal) card, and I have copied many VHS tapes to DVD with very little reduction if any in quality and may have up to 4 hours per disk (single sided).

I would not recommend going to more than 4 hours per disk - you will notice that though.

Re: Nero Vision Express v3.0.1.18 ??

Thankyou for the reply. So what I would do is convert the movie via Movie Factory 3 to the HD and then use the Nero Vision to burn it with?
Is this correct, as what Hauppauge told me via their phone support was that I had to use the Movie Factory to send the tape to the HD and then I could use whatever proggy to burn with.
I have never attempted anything with Nero Vision as I have always had short VHS tapes and did not need to worry about what would fit on a 4.7

The problem now for me is this, if what I described above is the process that i would use, I am a Noob and not conversant with how to go about settings on the Nero Vision which I have and don't even have installed on my computer.
I would appreciate your experienced comments as it is greatly appreciated to hear from a Hauppauge owner in common!!!
I love the unit and have simply being trying to orient myself and do some reading and visit forums.
Right now all I am doing is cloning a VHS tape and nothing elaborate, I want to get my feet wet first with experience before attempting anything that is above this Noob's brain level!!
For this reason I thought maybe I could simply burn a DL with this proggy and not have to worry about settings which are something out of my arena of knowledge.
I do have Clone DVD on my computer and have seen in a forum that it will do DL's but again I am not sure if it would be compatible with burning an MPEG sitting on my HD. Do you have any knowledge of this proggy and DL's and MPEG's???

I now have 2 neighbours who have gone out and bought the Hauppauge units, they could not believe the quality of my VHS backups.
The unit is really great and forums like this really helped me in choosing the unit and as well my BenQ 162I External Burner which does such a fantastic job and my backups have not failed to play on any standalone player.

I look forward again to comments and again thx for the prior response. I guess i simply need a little more details to be in my comfort zone for a regular 4.7 burn.
I already bought a couple of packs of Verbatim DL's and so I was wanting to give them a go without having to fool around with settings.

Again, regards

Re: Nero Vision Express v3.0.1.18 ??

Go to the Nero website. There are guides to NVE that can be downloaded.

To tell you all the steps would take a long time, but they are quite easy if you read the manual and experiment.

I am assuming you have already connected the VCR to the hauppage box.

Basically, to capture VCR to DVD using NVE:

1) start NVE

2) select "Capture Video to hard drive option"

3) select your TV card as the Capture Device"

You will need to scan the first time for your TV channels if you have connected via the

ariel leads to pick up the VCR channel. Click the blue TV picture to do this. (If you tv

card has a composite inout, connect the VCR video out socket to this and audio out sockets

to the soundcard. This is better than the RF ariel connect in tmers of quality).

4) select DVD as the capturing template

5) click the configure button and slect output resolution on DVD-Video tab (try 352x 576 - this is a lower resolution and will record around 4 hrs on a DVD)

6) select audio format to stereo, and click ok to return to main screen

7) on the main screen, click the record button (red circle with a green circle), and the program will record.

8) when finished, press the stop recording button, (red circle with white square)

9) click next button

10) at new screen, select make DVD with captured video.

At this point, you have an mpeg-2 file which you can the author to DVD, add menus, chapters etc. This will all be explained in the NVE guide.

Re: Nero Vision Express v3.0.1.18 ??

Thankyou for the reply with details.
Yes I have been hooked up to the Hauppauge PVR USB for some time now and doing the capturing and authoring with Movie Factory 3.0 as mentioned but it doesn't do DL's.
My backups on the 4.7 conversions have turned out superb.

What I intend to do as recommended by Hauppauge was do your steps
DVD Capture>config>audio as stereo>record>stop > next>make Captured DVD via my Movie Factory 3 proggy which is doing a great job and what Hauppauge Support in New York advised was for me to post as to whether then I could take that MPEG that I did via the above Movie Factory 3 process and author it into DVD onto a DL with Nero Vision Express 3.1.0.18.
Whether Nero Vision Express has that capability or not?
I have a number of concert videos in my library and want to convert them to DVD format, however Movie Factory 3.0 will not do the job and I will have to upgrade my OEM and purchase Version 4.
I was trying to save $ as I already have Nero Vision Express and use it to Create the DVD from MPEG format that would be sitting on the HD.
With the best resolution possible on a DL.
I look forward to a reply on that question, thankyou.
Respectful regards.
And thankyou for your time, I am going to now go on the net and look for Nero Vision Express and see if I can find any reading on it.
