Show actual write speed using X-Setup Pro.

You can use X-Setup Pro, a freeware program. Visit X-Setup Pro website to download it. Among the Start Options select "Classic", then go to Program Options -> Other Programs -> Nero Burning ROM -> Show actual burning speed and activate it.
It is shown at the image below:

This is what the registry looks like in 6.3 oem.
Any ideas for this one?

Didn't work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I tried it with the change in the registry I showed above. ( two posts up)

I have the 6.3 oem version.

When I startup in startsmart, I don't have the choices for dvd and cd anymore. Apparently it lost the dvd plugins which it had.

I got this with a memorex dvd drive.

I tried to uninstall and install again but it didn't help.

Any idea on how to completely uninstall so I can get a clean install again.?

Re: Nero TIP : Show actual write speed !

Yes, in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ahead\Nero - Burning Rom\Recorder create a new Dword value (Right click > New >Dword) and give it the name ShowSingleRecorderSpeed and value of 1

Re: Nero TIP : Show actual write speed !

start new notepad document, paste the following text into it:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ahead\Nero - Burning Rom\Recorder]
"ShowSingleRecorderSpeed"=dword:00000001

save it as showspeed.reg, make sure to change it from .txt in the drop down box below the save line

If you want it already done for you,I've included it below.Just change the .txt extention to .reg....double click it and hit yes-then ok and you should be cool.

I said this a year ago,

Speed Kills! Latest report has it that a CD spun out of control, was faster than a speeding bullet, and ran over a "PC User" while he was attempting to close the CD-RW tray.

As of 28 Feb, the only file you can download from anywhere, it seems, is the shareware version (v7, xqdcxsp-setup-en.zip, 3,422,883 bytes). Granted, it's only $8, and well worth it, but it ain't free anymore.

Strange that I couldn't find any links to download previous versions, which are free, in spite of prior assurances from the X-Setup creators that the 6.x versions would remain available after 7.0 was released!

Re: Nero TIP : Show actual write speed !

I have Nero 6, but in my registry I can't find the next entry"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ahead\Nero - Burning Rom\Recorder" in my registry it comes without "Recorder" entry, it comes like the following line:
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ahead\Nero - Burning Rom\"
How Can I make it show the actual write speed??

I actually think that changing this setting, SLOWS DOWN THE BURNING JOB and can (did more than once - like 16 times) corrupt the process by reporting the speed of each file - folder it copied.

Do some of your own tests and prove me wrong.

Now it reads 48x (7.200 KB/s) or what ever it auto detects - and as if I had nothing better to do than watch the speed.

There must be a Moderator who is kind and will put an end to this missery.
Any updates on this potential problem to report. I've seen this mentioned before somewhere, that this registry hack can corrupt the burn process. I'd do these tests myself If I didn't have moths in my wallet.
Any information people have I'd appreciate, especially the experienced or mods/admins.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Nero TIP : Show actual write speed !

Not only mods/admins are experienced and not all mods/admins are experienced in all fields

Anyways, i have been using this since day one on most Nero versions that have been published since - never experienced any problems that had anything to do with it.

Re: Nero TIP : Show actual write speed !

Thanks, I really appreciate the input, especially since you've been using it since day one. Have you picked up pcbugfixer's gauntlet & tried the tests put forth by him/her to "prove him/her wrong"? Prehaps, it could be an isolated bug on a few users systems, or completely unrelated, but until I can get a wider perspective on the issue, I'll probably refrain from using the hack.

LOL, I thought people might misconstrue that phrase at the time, it was poorly articulated, though I did put "the experienced OR mods/admins", I wasn't implying that mods/admins are the only people qualified as "experienced".

Re: Nero TIP : Show actual write speed !

Interesting him/her business Mate! then again I did get a haircut only last week so you can't say I'm a Sheila.

As to the Burning and reporting Speed. Think of any task a Computer is asked to perform or relate this to any task you or anyone else is asked to perform - I don't care.

Case scenario 1 - physical job relationship as means of logic understanding.
You drive a car with automatic gear shift from Sydney to Melbourne (1000 km) with lots of Hills = should be no problem as the Auto Drive will do all the work and you just make sure you don't Speed.

Case Scenario 2 - The automatic breaks down and you now have to manually use the T bar to change gears - This will add at least 8000 extra tasks to your driving job and it will obviously take you longer to get there.

So, CD burning on Automatic or Manual - is the next question.

Case Scenario 1 - Automatic (not using reg tweak for speed reporting)
Watch the task performance in the burning window, and time it.

Case Scenario 2 - Use the reg tweak to report the burning speed - does this manually, monitors (has to collect the information) and reports burning speed of all burning functions (tracks) as it goes along with frequent changes, which it must also collect and report (display) - Now watch the burning window and the extra task performance reporting, and now time this.

NB: "Mate" is Australian slang for "buddy", "friend." and "Sheila" is "a woman"
