Anyone else notice that in the above mentioned regestry branch, there is an option for RAW writing? Anybody played with this one? Currectly set to 0 on mine.

but surely it would toggle raw/ un-raw writing, which is pretty useless

Great trick. I think the speed is actually calculated, based on transfer rate from PC to drive and the response return time - a bit like ping time. Hey, but it doesn't matter, so long as it is accurate. This is why Dee-ehn got over 48x.

Re: Nero TIP : Show actual write speed !

I have Nero 5.599 and don't see this key in my registry. Are you using XP?

You have to click on the Recorder branch, or you can put the following into a text editor and save it as something like nero.reg:

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ahead\Nero - Burning Rom\Recorder]
"ShowSingleRecorderSpeed"=dword:00000001

Thanks. I thought others already had this key in the registry and it was missing from mine.

This tip is cool.

I had read it on the CDRLabs.com forum.

This works for me.

Anyone who doesn't find the key in the registry, just burn something using nero & the key will appear.

Now change the value.

Doesn't work here; I am working with two recorders, one being a scsi drive and one an ide drive. Nero resets the value everytime it comes to printing.

do you mean Nero re-sets it every time you burn? Mine did this once and I cured it by re-installing Nero and updating it in increments, ie: 5.5.7.8 - 5.5.8.0 - 5.5.8.2 - 5.5.9.0, etc, etc.

Yep. Setting the values and starting Nero doesn't change anything, but as soon as I have burned a disc the values are reset. (I am currently running v5.5.9.14.)

nope , not at each time you burn
the reset is made when you upgrade nero
just apply the tweak after an upgrade and voilà

I've upgraded once or twice and the setting has not reverted, still showing actual speed. I think some folks may get confused because it doesn't start showing the actual speed till after the burn starts.

The weird thing here is it doesn't change anything. And I insist on it: The setting is reset afterwards.

There might be a problem because I have a 12x Generic CRD-RW2 (SCSI, fixed speed) and a Lite-On 32x (IDE, CAV-Z).

That's what mine did until I re-installed and updated in increments, pretty weird.

I currently run 5.5.9.14 and according to luise, for me too, the key is resetting. I'v got 2 entry ShowSingleRecorderSpeed. I uninstall nero, clean up the registry, and reinstall nero. and i've got again 2 entry. i change the 2, but nothing, it's always reseting.

Maybe I am wrong, but does 'ShowSingleRecorderSpeed' mean "If have a single recorder, display actual speed" ???

Also, me think I read something about that in latest Nero changelog...

Regarding this "ShowSingleRecorderSpeed" setting -- is this only useful for ZoneCLV CDRW drives (the write speed bumps up at each 'zone')?

But for CLV drives (eg writing at 16x CLV), then the speed stays constant at 16x speed? Or will the speed also change up or down when this setting is enabled?
