I just finished installing a new combo drive and installed the bundled software (Nero OEM Suite 6.0) that came with it and it will not play a DVD. I am running Windows XP Pro. The software installed fine. When I click the "Showtime" icon the skin will show up but when I put in a good DVD (I have tried several) and click the play button nothing happens. I have un-installed and re-installed a few times and always with a re-boot afterwards and still to no avail. Is there a problem with the codec conflit in XP or something?

I have NO other DVD software in this PC although I do have Roxio that I have always used for my CD burning projects and editing as it has worked flawlessly. This is the first DVD drive that I have installed into this machine that replaced the LG CD/RW drive that was failing so I thought I would get a DVD for the heck of it. I purchased this at Comp USA and it is their namebrand combo drive.

I'll take a shot at an answer. Have you tried pointing Showtime to the drive?
right click anywhere inside the viewing window where it says Showtime. A menu should pop up where you can move down to "select source" which will then produce another menu hopefully listing your new drive. If it's not there then you work from there correcting that. I have had showtime not play dvd's before when just hitting play. I don't know if that is your problem as of yet. I would try the above first since your post states you are only just pressing play after opening Showtime and not stating you are selecting the source at some point.

I am having the same problem. Nero Showtime is reading the DVD and I can hear the audio but no video. I have downloaded all the updates and the k-lite full package and installed them. Still no video. WinDVD and WMP play the dvd fine. I even uninstalled Roxio incase there was a conflict, still did not solve the problem. I'm running a compaq 5000 series w/ athlon xp 1.46GHz and installed a Sony DRU-810a.
