I have used Fuji CD-R media for a few years now with very good results. Admittedly, I first bought it because it was cheap and it stated on the packaging that it used a long term strategy dye. Recently I saw somewhere that Fuji was concidered a low quality media. So, I decided to try a Sony brand CD-R. I bought a stack of 100CDQ80LS3 - 48X Sony CD-Rs.

My burner is a Sony DRU500AX with a CD write speed of 24X. The Fuji media burned at or near the max speed. Most of the Sony discs will only burn at about 12X when burning audio discs. PLUS, Norton Ghost keeps making coasters when I try to make images of my partitions. I get an error notice and am told to try another brand of media.

When using Nero CD Speed to check writing to the Sony media I get an error notice: Write Error - Recovery Failed (030C08) as the test is nearing completion. Per Nero's Error list this is a medium error.

Can anyone tell me what is going on here?
