Nero Answer about Scout was pathetic.

10. Why are you forcing Nero indexing, Nero Scout to be installed, when people don't want it?

Nero Scout is currently required for some of our applications such as Nero MediaHome and Nero Home to properly function. The indexing services running in the background are also necessary for creating and maintaining the Nero Scout multimedia database, making it more convenient for a user to stream or playback content from an indexed database than it would be to search the system for content. It is also less time consuming and much more user-friendly, especially if the user has their PC configured to run as a media center. Nero Scout is simply a database and is therefore not system stressing or resource consuming, nor does it require much storage place. We have significantly improved the performance of the indexing services and we have implemented them to run only when the system is idle. As soon as there is any user activity, the services become inactive. There is also an option for deactivating Nero Scout and the related services completely. For future versions, we will evaluate other possibilities regarding Nero Scout and its services. I have to say, this type of question always amuses me, since I do not hear many people complaining about iTunes or its services, which are far more system stressing and invasive than Nero Scout.
I only install Burning Rom, Vision, Recorde and Label Design, Tools (Disc Speed etc..) and this still scout still installs and keeps running.

Re: Nero Answer about Scout was pathetic.

I have to agree with the OP. I take that guys reply as nothing more than arrogant lip service. Installation of scout should be entirely optional, and in the case where specific parts of Nero require scout then there should be an explanation of this during the SELECTION procedure so we can make an informed decision instead of being blind sided.

I don't understand why it is that software developers just can't seem to resist the temptation to cram extra junk down our throats. Like the damn yahoo, google toolbar/desktop crap and scout. I've seen far too many softwares lately that have this junk checked off by default so that folks who aren't paying attention or know any better, get this crap installed and can't understand where it came from. If I really want some outfits lame tool bar, I'm pretty sure I can find it and install it myself. What ever happened to the days when you purchased or downloaded an application and that's exactly what you got, no extra garbage. Jeeze.

bikeme--
I agree 100% . I have nero 6.6.0.18 I bought and installed 7 when it came out , but it was so buggie nothing worked, so i went back to my nero 6 and i'm staying there till it will no longrer do the jobs for me. Then i wil use all the freeware stuff. I keep getting mail from nero with offers to update now to 8 , but they can keep it even at the half price they offer. My 6 works realy good.

Same here I'll stick with Nero 6 and do like you said use it until it no longer works for me also.
And I'm also sticking with Windows XP PRO for a long time or until it no longer works for me.
