InCD problem since upgrading to 4.3.20.1

I just updated my entire Nero 6.6 suite. Prior to the update I could use "Send to" to transfer my files and folders to CDRW media with few problems.
Now when I try to send "My Music, Pictures, etc" to one I get a pop-up as shown but if I do the same with self-created folders, such as "Nero" (where I have saved my Nero downloads) it goes without a protest.
I've InCD erased/formatted until I'm blue in the face and it still wont work.

Anyone have any ideas? By the way, in XP Home SP2 I've found changing attributes on file from Read-only doesn't take for some reason.

I reverted to the previous InCD build and the problem went away. So anyone else having that problem...please note.

Re: InCD problem since upgrading to 4.3.20.1

I think there's something wrong with the latest version of InCD. I had some extremely weird problems with my system after updating from InCD 4.3.14.1 to InCD 4.3.20.1. The obvious ones (which I observed) were as follows:
1. Norton Antivirus stopped launching itself when Windows starts. Problem solved by launching the antivirus manually once - after that things returned to normal.
2. MagiNet 3.0 (a network connection monitoring program which displays an icon in the System Tray) had a similar behavior as NAV. Problem could NOT be solved like described above.
3. The BlueTooth icon in System Tray wouldn't show up, although the BlueTooth dongle was present and working. Checking and unchecking the option in this direction (in BlueTooth Devices Properties) had effect until the first reboot only.
4. Most of the IBM proprietary programs I run on my laptop (which, BTW, is an IBM ThinkPad running WinXP Pro SP2 "enhanced" by half a dozen of IBM system utilities) ceased working and needed a re-install in order to come to life again.

As I wasn't sure at all these were the only malfunctions of my system, I finally decided to do a System Restore to the state before the InCD update. Everything came back to normal. I downloaded the update again, checked the MD5 checksum, and re-installed it a second time. Everything went mad exactly as it did the first time.

I'm wondering now: is it a general problem or is it an IBM ThinkPad related one??? Please, Ex_Brit, would you be so kind to tell me if by any chance your PC is IBM-made too? If all these problems appear on IBM machines only, the situation is pretty bad... Not to mention I gave up Roxio products less than a year ago because of the countless troubles with DirectCD... Thank you in advance!

Regards,
Teo

Re: InCD problem since upgrading to 4.3.20.1

Thanks for your observations. No it's not an IBM machine. basically I think Nero screwed up, and that's it, pure and simple.
I reverted to the previous build and no problems whatsoever.
Do me a favour, send a problem report to Nero, the more we complain the more they'll do something.

Thanks for your reply, Ex_Brit!

In what concerns the problem report, I'm just writting one. I still have to learn how and to whom it should be sent, but that shouldn't be a real problem. I'm pretty sure the guys at Ahead will soon find a solution - they are Germans, you know!

FFS, so how come each version introduces annoying behaviour or bugs? It never used to be like that, I've been using Nero since v4.

DrT,
I agree. I too have been using Nero since v4 and never had any major problems. I'll post whatever response I get here.

Re: InCD problem since upgrading to 4.3.20.1

Well, I strongly recommend that anyone having problems should complain to Nero Support, as they obviously are denying the issue:

Subject: Re: Web Support Request -[enu] - Case Info: [tNbFzLVyB8s=]

Dear valued customer,

thank you for your email and your interest in our software.

Please contact the manufacturer of the recorder in order to get the latest firmware for your recorder.
An old firmware can cause compatibility problems as well as burn failures.
Firmware upgrades for your recorder are provided only by the Manufacturer of your recorder. All firmware upgrades and support for upgrading your recorder’s firmware must be provided by either the recorder manufacturer or the OEM you purchased your recorder bundle from. We can not assist you in this, sorry.

For example if you have a Yamaha Recorder, you would go to the www.yamaha.com website in order to obtain the latest firmware for your recorder and instructions on how to upgrade your recorder’s firmware. Same goes for all other recorder manufacturers, such as Sony, Pioneer, LG, etc...

To determine what kind of recorder you have, assuming you do not know for sure, you can use our Nero InfoTool to obtain this information. To locate the Nero Info Tool, follow the steps below.

For Nero Burning ROM 6 or Nero Express 6 go to:
'Start->All Programs->Nero->Nero ToolKit->Nero InfoTool'

For Nero Burning Rom 5.5 or Nero Express 5.5 go to:
'Start->All Programs->Ahead Nero->Nero ToolKit->Nero InfoTool'

Once Nero InfoTool is launched, make sure your recorder is selected in the top left of the window. Use the drop-down box located there to select your recorder or any recorder. Once selected, it displays the manufacturer as well as the model of the recorder you have. Be sure to make a note of this. Also, once you have your recorder selected, you can click on the 'DRIVE' tab and in the top right of this window you will see the current firmware version (among other information) you have on your recorder. Compare this version with the latest firmware provided by the manufacturer of your recorder and upgrade if available.

Legal disclaimer:
"Nero AG is not liable for firmware updates as these updates are not offered by Nero AG. All updates are performed at one’s own risk. Nero AG will not be liable for the legality of the firmware."

Should you have any other request, please don't hesitate to contact us again.

Re: InCD problem since upgrading to 4.3.20.1

Nero wrote again...update firmware, so I did (exactly as per the instructions) and now my CDRW drive will only play CD's - makes noises when attempting record/erase or format and pop-ups...disk is damaged...with brand new disks.
I'm screwed.

Re: InCD problem since upgrading to 4.3.20.1

I completed doing a test with version 4.3.14.1 copied 60MB worth of pictures and word documents and was able to access all files, then update to the latest version 4.3.20.1 and copied some additional word documents and was not able to duplicate your issue, so I continued further. Ran the InCD cleantool then re-installed Incd 4.3.20.1 and did a full format 'Memorex HighSpeed RW 12X' and copied the same 60MB files on WinXP Sp-2 and all files were accessable and accessable under Windows Vista Beta version! I recommend you try another brand of RW media like Verbatium, Ricoh, TDK or Maxell media.

Re: InCD problem since upgrading to 4.3.20.1

Thanks. I think it was the drive... it broke down completely. Now waiting to install a new one before I test the issue further. I did try several different brands of media.

Re: InCD problem since upgrading to 4.3.20.1

Footnote...it was rather strange when it happened in that I had no problem sending my own created folders to the drive, but not Windows folders, such as "My Music" etc.
Anyway, time will tell. I'm hoping the problem disappears, as I'm very impressed with Nero as a whole.

Re: InCD problem since upgrading to 4.3.20.1

Your problem ended up being aa hardware one not Nero's fault, but their answer to you it is also a bit odd as Yamaha ceassed CDRW production a couple of years ago and I'm not aware of firmware new versions since 2003, at least for their last drive the CRWF-1 (1.0g).

Re: InCD problem since upgrading to 4.3.20.1

Thanks for the update, when burning files with Nero Burning Rom/Nero Express which follows the the ISO standard for creating Data CDs the files are 'read only'. InCD uses UDF file system.

The Tech from Nero AG used Yamaha as an example-"For example if you have a Yamaha Recorder, you would go to the www.yamaha.com website in order to obtain the latest firmware for your recorder.

Your DVD recorder is manufactued by Samsung TS-H522U DVD-RW DL.

I was using a 1 year old LG GCE8525B CDRW drive, the one which is now toast. It was only 1 firmware level down from the current (1.4, now 1.5). Anyway I've ordered a new Samsung as per my sig.
I was using InCD formatted CDRWs and as I said, had no problems with self-created files, only files built by Windows such as My Music, My Pictures. The problem started the minute I applied the latest InCD update. It could of course, just be coincidence.

P.S. The DVDRW DL drive doesn't support MRW writing.

Re: InCD problem since upgrading to 4.3.20.1

Since a disaster struck, I've had to format/reinstall Windows...now does anyone have a download of InCD4.3.14.1 ? My backups failed too. All the links I find on the internet lead to the latest version.
