| Re: InCD/DirectCD - warning I believe that would constitute abnormal behavior. Normally, I would insert a recordable CD/DVD, wait for the Windows prompt and select "Create Your Own Disc using Nero StartSmart." Then, when Nero StartSmart runs, I can select whatever task I want Nero to do. Alternatively, you could go the longer way: Start - All Programs - Nero - Nero StartSmart. Of course, you could click on the .exe file directly if you are already browsing that folder in Windows Explorer. It all depends on what turns you on! ![]() |

| Re: InCD/DirectCD - warning Hi. I recently switched from Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 (came with my burner) to Nero 7 Ultra Edition. Any DVD-RW's that I had formatted previously using DragtoDisc and copied data files to using Explorer, now appear as read only. After reading most of this thread, I'm assuming that the results of the packet-writing utilities DragtoDisc and InCD aren't compatible. Is there any way I can write to these DVD's now (short of reinstalling Roxio) or am I stuck with copying the files back to my hard drive and backing them up again using Nero? (I'm using Windows XP Pro, Plextor PX-712A firmware V1.07) |

So install just Drag to Disc utility, it's a nice addition to Nero 7.0. PS: Just make sure you have uninstalled InCD first they probably won't get along that nicely.

I considered reinstalling Drag to Disc but after reading in this thread that packet-writing isn't such a good idea I was thinking about switching to multisession.

It's also was pretty damn convienent way to make a backup of a small file that isn't worth creating a whole session for.

| Re: InCD/DirectCD - warning I wasn't having any problems with Drag to Disc either until I bought some Maxell DVD-RW's. When I tried to do a full format on them Drag to Disc just hung and the disc was toast. I guess I'll reinstall it for now as you suggest so that I can still use the disc's that I have individual files on. Thanks for your help. |

| Re: InCD/DirectCD - warning why dont u try getting some +RW media next time, i recall they can support Mt. Rainier while DVD-RW cant... and +RWs can handle error correction better than -RW.. as i recal :-S

| Re: InCD/DirectCD - warning Why don't you try getting some DVD-RAM media and the appropriate burner ? Drag and drop through the Explorer on a DVD-RAM in FAT 32 works fantastic ! and is native in XP (no more or less incompatible driver to install) On top FAT32 is a ile system compatible nearly everywhere |

However, I do not use XP,,, W2000 pro..yes... Use NTFS as opposed to any fat file system. I also do not have a need for file compatible.. unless I have missed something. I have not had a file problem with any of the cd's or DVD's from one system to another, in other OS's w98, w95, XP ... however, they do need a UDF reader if the CD is an InCD media format... but other than that no.. have a great holiday and and fanstastic New Year.. Thanks again..

| Re: InCD/DirectCD - warning Hi.... Please forgive my most basic of questions.... Newbie question... I download AVI's and want to burn them to DVD using Nero. Can I burn the raw avi file to DVD and will this work?? Will I have to convert the AVI or will Nero (6) do this? THX H. |

But it seems no DVDRW drive support Mt Rainier nowadays, plus we need to wait for Windows Vista to use this feature. Am I right? If not, do you know how I can use Mt Rainier? I need it! ![]()

| Re: InCD/DirectCD - warning Hi effgjamis Besides NTFS advantages, as you would use 4.7GB discs the 4GB barrier is not that important - the individual files would be within the FAT32 size range. Formating in FAT 32 discs can be seen as external HDD by all MS O/Ss, with not need of packet writting software and all the associated problems. The problem with InCD and UDF files is that if you write and delete a lot of files and the disc's TOC needs to be midified often you risk to get problems. And DVD-RAM checks your files integrity, thus the reason for lower speed (but it writes behind the scene as a HDD) and you can read from it while files are being written. |

anyway, u can transfer the files onto DVD's using nero, but that'll be a DVD Data disc, and the file won't be converted, to get a DVD-Video compatible DVD, u should convert the file using Nero Vision or some other converter... plz go to the appropriate section in the appropriate thread in the forums, and ask ur question there again, and i'm sure u'll find too much help ![]() good luck

| Re: InCD/DirectCD - warning If InCD 5 is installed, I can't read UDF disks (not rewriteable, but contains a bigger than 2GB sized file, so iso isn't work). If I use InCD 4, or uninstall any InCD, than everything is fine. Did anyone met with this problem? |

| Re: InCD/DirectCD - warning i dont know myself, i only installed InCD 5 for a real short time, as the whole bundle was so buggy and unstable, for the time being i think u can report the problem to the Nero Team, and revert back to the InCD 4 version, and wait til the guys resolve that issue in a coming release ![]()

| Re: InCD/DirectCD - warning After months of trouble with InCD, I finally discovered the solution and I hope this will help someone else. The trouble is a registry entry - other programs that use the CD overwrite the entry and then InCD will stop working (write protected disk, missing drives.). It came to a head after I uninstalled everything Nero and suddenly my DVD drives were gone (and had the yellow explanation mark in hardware). I found this Microsoft article http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q314060 Follow the instructions and then reinstall InCD and everything will work again Last week I installed the latest Norton Ghost, and again InCD stopped working (DVD drive missing). I went back to the registry, deleted the UpperFilters value, reinstalled InCD (I am still using InCD4) and everything is back in business. It seems that the source of all InCD problems is in this registry value. I hope this helps you - it has sure been the answer to all my troubles! |

| Re: InCD/DirectCD - warning Would this have a bearing on the problems I was having with any version of InCD 4 higher than 4.3.14.1, including the beta test of InCD5 that I tried? I couldn't right-click and use "Send to" (CDRW) on Windows created folders..."My Music" for example, but could with folders/contents that I had created myself. I would get a "read Only" type error and many emails to Nero later still no solution. So I've stuck with 4.3.14.1. I posted this problem somewhere in this Forum a while back with no solution.

| Re: InCD/DirectCD - warning Try it - I'm guessing that making this easy registry change will fix your problems! Many other programs alter the UpperFilters value (and cause the read-only problem.) The value should be "incdrm InCDPass" for InCD (4.3.20.1) to work correctly Let me know. |

| Re: InCD/DirectCD - warning Well I tried InCD 4.3.20.1 and did the registry thing as per the MSFT article. Images below show the errors and the registry as it was before. After deleting the upper and lower filter values then reinstalling I'm left with only Upper and no lower....did I do something wrong? InCD still gives the error. ![]() ![]()
