i recently had problems making a dvd with an older version of nero 7 v 7.something ultra
(it wouldn't let me drag the .avi files and told me to get codecs but even ace mega pack didn't work)
anyway...
so i went to install nero 7 v8.5 ultra
all went well and i chose the typical installation...and it starts loading and it tells me that i require directx 9.0c
i thought i did something wrong so i went to microsoft and installed it
(even the apr2007 update)
and so i tried both typical and custom but i cant get past that screen telling me to get the latest directx version
i have it already!
so how do i downgrade or uninstall directx so that i can for sure make it seem like it is on my computer
i need nero cause i want to burn the dvd-rws!(i tried dvd and the dvd-rw burning icons)

and also
im sure ill get the same problem of being unable to insert the .avi files even though i have the codec so does anyone have any solutions so that i can fix both problems at the same time

Nero will install the directx items it requires, just click the ok button.

o yea well i checked the box and clicked next and a window popped up saying
"Sorry, in order to install nero 7 ultra edition, you must have directx 9.0c. Please go to microsoft.com and install it"

now that i read it again, it feels like i got jipped
i already installed 9.0c..i dont know what the problem is
if i uncheck the box i can't continue

I ran into the same thing and if I clicked don't install it wouldn't let me go any further so I clicked install like strachan suggested and it installed.(already had directx installed.) Maybe try downloading Nero again or remove the Dx9 already installed on your PC.

I think I read somewhere that DirectX 10 is out now, but I cannot remember where.

Looks like you can't uninstall Directx as it's built into the OS now. Prior versions of Windows you could. There are faq's and instructions how to download here.
