Feature requests for Nero 6

If you have any features you would like to see appear in Nero 6 then you can post them here. The developers of Ahead might read them and, who knows, implement them!

Add an option to not Slam all file associations

I have always been a Nero fan, but I'm sad to say it's now virtually unusable (or more accurately, not upgradeable).

I believe that beginning with Nero 6.3.0.0 Installation package #2 (Showtime & Recode) that during the installation it slams/hijacks nearly 15-20 file application associations. Now if that's not bad enough, it does so in a way that makes Nero Showtime the "Restore to" default (an additional hurdle in XP).

While yes, I can attempt to restore my old association one by one, but should this really be necessary after every update or upgrade? Moreover, the solution is not so easy for some of us who have equipment like the DV500 which has intricate command-line functions tied to our AVI right-click options like "PinnaclePlay" with is entirely ERASED by merely upgrading Nero Install Package #2.

So, unless I missed some option in the Showtime Player or during installation, that ASKS if it's ok to slam the application associations, you might want to consider adding one. I remember when Realplayer used to resort to tacktics like this, but at least with them, there was a way to navigate to the right options during the install to prevent such a disaster. Is that asking so much?

Just three things for me

All i would like to see in newer versions of Nero 6 is a "Shut Down When Finish" option for Nero Express and i am not sure if i am missing out. . .but on the audio format for making DVD's under "Video Options". . .there is 'LPCM' and 'Dolby Digital (AC-3) 2.0'. . .i do not know if it depends on the movie or not. . .but is it possible to add a 'Dobly Digital (AC-3) 5.1' sound format? Well the last thing i would like to request is that Nero needs to be able to burn its own "Nero Digital Recode MPEG-4" videos. I got a few of them and i tried using them to make a dvd/svcd and it gives me a Failure to Transcode Error and it only does it with my Nero Digital files. Oh and when are new consumer products for Nero Digital going to come out like DVD players and of that sort?

New user with Nero 6.3.0.3

The only feature I've seen that is lacking much functionality is the inability to read the names and other info about the tracks on an audio CD.

Nero has much difficulty accessing the freedb.org database. Even WMP, when the same audio CD is in the read drive, picks up all the track info.

Freedb.org claims that Nero is the only software that consistently has problems.

Personally I don't use labels or any of the track info, but when I burn a compilation of tracks from my CDs for my wife, she likes to know what track is where.

Width of tabs in explorer

I'm tired of resizing tabs width in Nero explorer. After every burn they become default again and again. This is very ugly "feature"!!!

Map the drive you want to see and it wil show in up in nero explorer view or just grab file(s) from windows explorer and drag and drop them to your compilation

What I would love is loooonnnggg filenames like 255 chars so I can use nero for all my burning needs

warning features

Great if Nero can include a Warning text before any actual burn starts.
Text should be user editable

eg. Disable all backgnd programs etc

Other things i would like

I would like a "randomizing" button to randomize songs. . .a "shut down when done" option for Nero Express. . .they needa fix the "Make a Movie" then "export" for movie files. . .it freezes. . .and well. . .about that Dolby Digital (ac-3) thingy. . .unless the 2.0 is like version or something. . .i do not believe that is 5.1 surround. Oh and when the Nero Digital dvd players coming out?

I have a DVB tuner which dosn't appear as a capture device, and hence is not available to direct to disk software. It would be nice if a DVD+VR disk could be mounted as a drive so that my DVB tuner could send it's MPEG files to it and I would end up with a usuable DVD+VR disk containing the video.

I have already written to the Ahead support, because I hate it that I have to install the whole Nero Vision Express thing, even if I only want to use Nero Recode. What makes it even worse is that the buggy Nero Showtime always associates itself *unasked* with all my media files.

The answer from the support team was that it is the policy of the managment not to let the user choose what he wants to install. So I might choose a new burning programm next time I have to upgrade!

Cheers

The latest available NVE lets you choose file association for nero showtime although I think this should have happened long ago!!

Re: Feature requests for Nero 6

Could Ahead put on their website that you need to register the PowerPack Lame MP3 Encoder or Wave Editor 2 is useless. I have Nero 6.3.1.10 and never used Wave Editor 2 until today. Kept getting the error message "For unlimited use of the Power Pack Lame MP3 Encoder, a registration is required" everytime I tried to save a wave file.
Shouldn't the serial number unlock this feature?

Re: Feature requests for Nero 6

Yes I belive the serial will unlock it but you need a ultra edition serial that came with a box set or you purchased from Ahead via the Net, not a serial just to unlock the demo version.

Re: Feature requests for Nero 6

Nero should have a routine to delete the 0 byte temp files it creates every time the program is accessed. Its very irritating to have to delete these manually.

Re: Feature requests for Nero 6

I'd be happy if Nero 6 had full support for the TV Wonder Pro. Video capture works fine, but not so with audio. Studio 9 and even Windows XP Home can capture video AND audio from the TV Wonder Pro, but not yet Nero 6.

Also, Nero Recode could use the ability to create menus for disks created by compiling video from other DVD's. I like compiling my captured musical peformances onto a single DVD, and having a menu for navigating the DVD would be great. If Nero Recode allows for that, the feature is well hidden. Which reminds me - Nero, particularly Nero Recode, needs in-line help.
