Data Emergency - help!

i burned an extremely important folder using nero 5.5 onto a cdr that was burned months ago. it worked, it verified the data, i found the data on there myself.

then i added a folder, and now it looks like *everything* previously recorded is gone. apparently when i record lately, everything from before disappears. i must be doing something wrong. however, i didn't think a cd-r could act like a cd-rw.

one tech i called said maybe the cd just lost track of where the files are. is it possible the data is still there? and if so, is it possible to retrieve it? (i wiped the hard drive copy 7 times with Eraser, not having any idea the cd would stop working. my data recovery program shows 0 bytes for all the files, so i think the hard drive is a dead end.)

Re: Data Emergency - help!

Hey there and wellcome to CDFs!

Once data is burnt to a CDR, it CANNOT be delete. The second set of data you burnt is called a "multisession" CD. Try downloading ISOBuster and see what that says about the disk.

Re: Data Emergency - help!

Ah good Just right click on the folder you want and select "Extract" like this:

Then just tell ISOBuster where to drop the files!

Re: Data Emergency - help!

yes yes it worked! thank you thank you thank you!

words can hardly express how happy i am to have such vitally important data back. my whole world was shattered at the thought that i lost stuff and wasn't even sure what all i lost. and worse, most of the geeks i asked offered no hope at all. but now all is well!
