Can't Restore w/Nero BackItUp I'm using Nero 7.0 BackItUp. I'm trying to restore data I backed up to an external hard drive. I had to do a complete/clean reinsall of my internal hard drive. I am running Windows XP. BACKITUP RESTORE STEPS: 1. I select the data to be restored, no problem. 2. Then I check the data, it all appears to be there. 3. I'm trying to restore it to an alternate location on my hard drive. Also tried original locations. 4. I click "Start Restore". 5. I enter the restore path and click "Next". 6. The log file starts with message "The restore process has been started" and "Decompression of files has been started". 7. Then a small window opens asking "Please specify the new location of the backup 8. I again specify the location when prompted but it will not let me past this point. Any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, k_mac

| Re: Can't Restore w/Nero BackItUp I never used Nero for this purpose, I use Acronis True Image. But it should work the same way, you choose Restore and the then restore file, then reboot. If I am not mistaken it should work the same way, does Nero give you the option to " Validate the backup archive"? I wish I could help you more.

Re: Can't Restore w/Nero BackItUp I believe I found the problem. When I reinstalled my system the source drive letter of my external harddrive changed that the BackItUp files were on and Nero wasn't finding those files. I made the needed changes and the restore is now running and putting the files in the new directory I specified. Thanks to those of you that sent your input. k_mac

Re: Can't Restore w/Nero BackItUp Glad you got this sorted. My suggestion for you going forward would be deselect the compression option when making your backup to another disk. Nero will then store its backup files as exact copies of what is on your disk in a normal file structure. Then if the worst happens again you can easily retrieve your backup files without even needing to re-install Nero. Clearly the downside is that it takes more space, but I think it is worth it to have direct access to the backed up files in a dire emergency. For instance you can also move the backup hard drive to another machine and recover the files directly without any Nero intervention.

Re: Can't Restore w/Nero BackItUp Yes, I wish I would not have used compression. Besides being more difficult to retrieve the back ups, now I see the compression messed up the mp3 files and are now not supported by my audio players. Another few days will be needed to filter & convert the mp3 files. Live & Learn!!
