can't read mounted image beyond 4GB

Hi there,

Before re-installing my operating system I wanted to backup the folders in my hard drive "Documents and Settings" and "Program Files" to a DVD, and when total size happen to exceed the standard 4.7GB size I have changed the writer from from my NEC to Image Recorder in Nero and burt a nrg image of ~7GB as if I was writing a DVD9 to my slave hard drive.

After I have got the new operating system up and running, I was not able to read some of the files from the disk image that I have mounted back using Nero ImageDrive.

I have tried to mount the same nrg image using Daemon Tools, Alcohol, and even bougth an 8.5GB DVD+R burnt to it.

The result is the same; either I get the error "Cannot copy : The parameter is in correct." or empty/unreadable files are copied to my disk.

God I hate myself not having copied the files directly to the slave drive but created an dvd image.

Have anyone encountered the same error before and got a solution? Or, anybody to advice anything I have not tried.

Desperate to hear any solution.

Re: can't read mounted image beyond 4GB

What file system are you using, FAT32 or NTFS?

The FAT32 has a file size limitation of 4 GB and is not suited for working with DVDs for this reason.

Although FAT32 can be converted to NTFS, it is the preferred method to reformat the drive using the NTFS file system.

Re: can't read mounted image beyond 4GB

Well, the hard drive that the disk image and the one that has the operating system on it are both on NTFS; and the image says it has CDFS file system when mounted.
I am thinking now that may be it is the driver that mounts the image may have a limitation like 4GB or so. When I check it out on Device Manager, it is listed under DVD/CD-Rom Drives as NERO IMAGEDRIVE2 SCSI CDROM Device and the driver is listed to be suplied by Microsoft, Driver Date 01.07.2001, version 5.1.2535.0. Well that seemed kind of old to me to read large media like DVD9; I don't know whether you all have the same or not - do any of you guys have different or newer driver than that?

Re: can't read mounted image beyond 4GB

Oe of the guys on another forum which I have posted the same problem adviced to give IsoBuster a try to extract the files from the nrg file. I have down loaded the free distributed version from IsoBuster site, and it worked just great.
I dont know what caused this situation but IsoBuster managed to extact all files from the image to desktop without any problem, that were not accessable before.
So case closed, problem solved, and lessons learned; if there is enough space on another disk dont bother to create disk images just copy them to the empty space but if you don't and nero messes up image files give isobuster a try.
