LiteOn / PLDS/ Sony Burner Discuss, Ways to distinguish a DRU-810A from a DRU-810A-R (without opening the box) at CD and DVD Burners forum; Look at the top of the barcode label. Ways to distinguish a DRU-810A from a DRU-810A-R (without opening the box)

Look at the top of the barcode label.

The one on the left with the "BA" is an 810A and the one on the right with the "CA" is an 810A-R. I've got five 810A's and four 810A-R's (pardon me for being piggy) and they all conform to this pattern.

Also if you're lucky enough to spot one with this round sticker on the front of the box, it's a dead giveaway: the music download offer expires in March and all the 810A-R's I've seen have mfg dates of April.

This might be of help to folks trying to pickup an 810A from the drives in clearance at Office Depot, etc....

Following your input, I found 2 1640 (810A) and 6 1650 (810A-R) at a WalMart. Unfortunately they were 69.99.
