special cable for digital sound card?

I'm in the process of replacing an older drive with a new 48246S. I noticed in the manual that it suggests that you use a special cable for connecting the drive to a digital sound card, as opposed to using the one that comes with the unit. Could someone please explain what the difference is and where I can get one?

With the digital there is no loss in sound quality.

You don't need to have the cable to use this feature if you have Win98 or higher, you can enable digital playback without the cable.

Some sound cards will require using the 2-wire digital connect for some features. Another good reason to use it is to avoid using the IDE for the audio. Most all newer audio cards have a digital input, often labeled S/PDIF. Some cards also have a digital output option. It all depends on what you wish to do with the digital signal. If you're just listening to music, using the IDE might work well enough.
