hi,

im new to this and im having problems with my sony dru-810a, it seems that it doesn't burn properly anymore? ive been trying to burn off an ISO file and i keeps failing saying it has write error, ive tried putting the burning in other computers and the same error occurs.
ive also tried burning off other files and that doesn't seem to work either.

is it time to retire the burner?

You could update your Nero to the current version 7.2.7.0. Have you tried burning the image with ImgBurn and does it fail as well? Which media are you using?

I second that question - and are you burning (or trying to burn) at 4x out of choice?

This makes me wonder if it is indeed media related:

hey, ive tried imation media, and this report is from using a TDK DVD+R ...., media burns at 16x, ive tried with different speeds, this report just happened to be at 4x , ive tried using alcohol 120% and nero only, already wasted a lot of blanks

Pretty hard to tell what's going wrong here. Uninstall Alcohol and Nero (use Nero CleanTool) and any other virtual drives you have installed and then try to burn the ISO with ImgBurn. Also disconnect the CD-RW and use the 810A as single master on that IDE channel for testing.
