Not all burners support + discs, that why there are - and +

hi and thanks for the replys. i am using the Nero 7 Essentials software which came with the burner. i have tried Maxell DVD+R and also, Memorex DVD+R. I installed the latest firmware update with strange, results. after install, it would burn them then but, after i burnt a CDR and then tried to go back to burning the DVD+R it rejected it? until, i updated the Firmware again? anyone have any ideas? the manual, and box both state that DVD+R Discs should work. thanks again!

Check the basics first: is your new drive jumpered as Master and connected to the end of an 80-wire ribbon cable? Disconnect any Slave drive for testing. Is it running in "Ultra DMA Mode 4" (follow this link)?

The OP is asking about the Sony 830, not about ALL the burners.
The 830 burns both formats.
Missing information here:
A) Media used (are you trying to burn CMC M1 or YUDEN 02, etc)
B) Speed at which you're trying to burn
C) Burning program
D) Step at which you realize the burner "doesn't want to record DVD+R" media
E) A log

Also, have you tried burning DVD-R succesfully?

hi there, i had no trouble burning the DVD-R Discs. i went ahead and took the sony back to office depot, and got a memorex burner they had. so far, everything works great. i'm having trouble finding any firmware updates for it if, there is any available. the model number is MRX 510L if i remember right. anyone know of any available firmware updates at this time? Thanks!

I recently had this problem as well which I asked in another thread b4 finding this one. I ripped my dvd onto my hard drive, then used nero 7 essentials also. I put a DVD + R (Sony brand) into my Sony 830 and then hit burn. I chose burn at 8x and burn at once. A message pops up saying something like Wrong Media, Disc needed for compilation : DVD R/RW, DVD R DL, and DVD-RAM. What does this mean and I also was under the impression that my sony could burn to every single type of blank media. Should I try DVD-R in the drive, or DVD + RW, or what?

hi, when i first added the newest firmware update it burnt both types DVD+R and DVD-R. but, i burnt a music CD-R next and right after that when i tried to burn another DVD+R, i was back to the same problem again. i ran firmware update patch again and burnt another DVD+R no problem? that was enough for me he he! so i took it back and exchanged it for a Memorex MRX-510L model and have had no problems at least not yet. still looking fo ther latest firmware update for the Memorex if, there is one available.
