Sony crx220E1 bad burn

Hello all
I have made terrible mistake and accidently burnt the firmware for my Sony DVD burner to my Sony CD burner.

Naturally this has caused the CD to die - the machine boots slowly but the hard drive and the CD lights remain on all the time and the drive is not recognised in BIOS or Windows XP.

I have trolled aound your board and the Internet in general and have found the MTKFLASH utility. I tried flashing with the DOS MTKFLASH and the Windows IDE MTKFLASH programs but I get errors and the burn does not start saying that the firmware is not recognisable or it just hangs.

Can you help or will I have to consign the drive to computer heaven?

Thanks for any help

Peter

Re: Sony crx220E1 bad burn

Thanks for the info.
This is where I got the initial information - however, when reading your page again more carefully I see you recommend the older 1.55 version for CD burners which I haven't tried yet.
Could you explain the /m flag? All my attempts at burning with the /m flag have given the help screen from MKFLASH. Could this be a problem?

Yeah, your command is surely incorrect. Try the build your mtkflash command feature at the bottom of the page. It's not terribly important to use the old 1.55 version for CD Burners.

Re: Sony crx220E1 bad burn

Thanks Dave you are a marvel

Went back to your page and downloaded the 1.55 version and flashed the drive using the switches as suggested.

Went in first time without a problem - well done.

So in my case I needed to download the 1.55 version - this is the version with the /m switch - and the /b switch for bin - the 1.8 version would not work.

Thanks again!!!
