Sony CRX-185E1 to Lite-On: Few Questions

Hi everyone,

I've searched this forums repeatidly looking for information about my drive, a Sony CRX-185E1, and I found out that it's a Lite-On LTR-32123S.

Reading threads about upgrading the firmware for my drive, someone suggested this page:

http://www.sinor.ru/~abgm/

where it's explained how to make a beautyfull LTR-40125S with Mount Rainer and P-CAV.

I have a question: If I upgrade my drive to LTR-40125S... Would I be able of upgrading later via official firmware upgrades by Lite-On??

If anyone can add its personal experience with this Sony drive upgrading issues, I'll be very glad.

Thanks to all of you

What is the current firmware on your CRX185E1? Is it XYS2? The only way to upgrade this drive is to use the firmware version XSU1. It is a special 40x12x48 firmware made for the "3S" series. You cannot use any other firmwares with this drive @ the overclocked speed. if your drive has a firmware other than XYS2, please backup before you flash and send it to me for my collection!

Thaks for the info, but I'm afraid I can't provide a new piece for your collection as long as my firmware is actually XYS2!!

So... I can't use any other firmware than XSU1... Besides upgrading, is not possible either to use firmwares for the original LTR-32123S as a "conversion"? I saw that the new XS0Z has P-CAV, and as I said above, I'm not *specially* interested in recording speed increase or Mount Rainer technic... If it could be done so, I would keep upgrading as LTR-32123S without any problem!!

Thanks a lot!

You can use any of the LTR-32123S firmwares with your drive, including the new XS0Z. You just can't overclock with any firmware other than XSU1...

Done!!!

Finally I did it!!

Now I have a LTR-32123S with XS0Z firmware

Just want to say that I've backed up and flashed my CD-RW frimware being secondary master, for people reading the guide for MTKFLASH in the sticky thread.

Ain´t got time to give it a try, I'll do it this night when back home from job.

Nero Info, Nero itself and CloneCD are reporting good status for the drive, so I'm happy enough.

Thanks to this forums and all people involved, I couldn't do it without your help.

¡¡Saludos!!
