Seems to be working fine on my LH-20A1L.
If you want me to charge USD$29.95 per copy, instead of giving it away for free, I'll be glad to oblige.

Great 1st post. It's not good enough that CK offers so much free utilities for us to use, and God forbid you had to spend a "decent amount" of your invaluable time to find out what the options mean.

Why don't you offer something back to the community first?

You really think that a line or two description of what the option does is worth $30? Don't get me wrong, you did a great job and I'm thankful. Thank you. I'm just offering a suggestion to help other people out that didn't have or want to spend the time finding what all those options mean.

I don't think that's the kind of welcome that people would like when they offer a suggestion. Just because I'm new to THIS forum, doesn't mean I don't already give lots to communities all over.

Besides, if I knew what those options were already, I probably wouldn't be thinking like a "n00b" and suggesting that a brief description would help. It's just that extra little polish that might save people time and posts trying to figure things out on the forum.

Hey Code you just keep on doing what you do...because I for one would probably kiss your rear on main street for what you have done over the years.....if you don't mind me saying....hehe. Seriously thanks for your work.

There's a word that defines that: laziness.

Oh and what else would you like to be served on your platter? If CK were to do this "suggestion" for you, what's not to say the next persons won't be asking for more? You're only thinking for yourself, not for CK.

Overall, your "suggestion" is a criticism, so unless you have something constructive to THIS community (nobody cares what you've offered in other communities), don't be asking for any favors just to satisfy your needs and those who are too lazy to actually do some research.

Re: Settings Utility for LiteOn Drives (v1.1.0) ***NEW***

I didn't see clickwir's post as a criticism. I just wanted to point out that it was a free utility and as such help or right click explainations are a luxury, seldom expected when it's free. You don't even get much information provided with the official LiteOn tool.

However, no offense was taken from clickwir's post, so let's please keep it friendly.

Thanks for posting ironD.

Re: Settings Utility for LiteOn Drives (v1.1.0) ***NEW***

May I also add my take on SmartBurn, as is concerned here:

SmartBurn is a technology LiteOn implements to do a little extra quality check BEFORE the burn, supplementing the Optimal Power Calibration that takes place before every burn done. This extra quality check will determine mainly one thing: if the drive decides to write at your requested speed or not. It is advised to leave it on when using poor media, though it will NOT fully compensate fully for foolish write speed decisions or for media that cannot be written properly by any drive.

When to DISABLE SmartBurn:
  • If you have known good media, and you want to attempt to decrease your burn time by a few second [though this benefit may not mean much in the grand scheme of things].
  • If you have known good quality media and are attempting to overspeed it, as SmartBurn may be a bit aggressive and not allow your attempted overspeed to take place.
  • When you have good OR mediocre media specifically supported by the drive's firmware, and testing reveals that ONLY disabling SmartBurn improves write quality. Some drives will be TOO aggressive with their pre-burn calibration with SmartBurn enabled, making worse results than if the drive just used the original write strategy found in firmware.

I personally recommend testing to see how write quality is with SB on and with SB off, and decide from there.

Note that disabling it does not guarantee that your media is written at your requested speed [as there can be other physical reasons such as disc warp, etc, where the drive will have to slow down]. A reminder again that leaving it enabled will NOT fully fix any issues resulting from poor media or foolish speed choices, so make sure you still watch your write speeds, and make wise use of the HyperTuning/Online HyperTuning and OverSpeed options!

I only have one question, does the settings utility also work with LiteOn based Sony drives?

Thanks!

When burning Ritek D01 001 (Memorex) DVD+R DL discs with LiteOn DH-20A4H at 4x, use C0deKing's EOHT firmware and turn on Smart Burn, Force Hyper Tuning and Online Hyper Tuning options to obtain the highest quality burns with the lowest amount of total PI failures.

As far as I know, the Settings Utility only works with drives based on LiteOn 5S and newer drives. That Sony is based on a 3S drive.

Also, I'm not sure that all the firmwares for newer LiteOn-based Sony drives support these options.

Thanks CK

I have tried using Settings_Utility-1.1.0.exe but out of 3 tabs only Options is active with one option "SmartBurn" active. The rest is grayed out. I need to sort out my USB LiteON SDW-431SX(firmware MSOK) that I use for data DVD disks. My computer is P4, 80G, DVD R, DVDRW, XPhome. Everything works fine except for LiteON drive.
What could be the problem?
If more info is needed, please tell me what is required.

Re: Settings Utility for LiteOn Drives (v1.1.0) ***NEW***

Thanks for the utility. I was using a combo of Smartburn and Imgburn for drive setting defaults (including bitsetting). I know that Lite-On has a bitsetting utility, but Imgburn seemed easier, although you have to go through a few tabs to do it.

By the way, Lite-On Global has updated their Smartburn to version 3.5.1.

http://www.liteonit.com/global/index...per&Itemid=153

There's no "Destroy Disc" option, but there is a Power Mode tab.

In theory, how would the destroy disc option work? Would it overwrite a disk with jibberish?

I would expect it would burn over all sectors of the disc with "ones" (or "zeroes" as it may be) making any previously burned data irretrievable.

This wouldn't be secure enough if it would be possible to write data - the laser power should be much stronger and using something by random.

I assume that it would just use a fairly high laser power to simply attempt to deform the pits and lands/burn the dye layer & make it unreadable, instead of trying to "rewrite" data to an already written disc.

A newer drive is required. The 431SX does not have those features.
