You will need to use LiteOn's bitsetting tool to set the bitsetting...

The bitsetting fix will only fix broken bitsetting implementations and is available only for firmwares where it is broken.

Auto-bitsetting is available only for old-style firmwares where the booktype setting is lost after a drive reset (system reboot or firmware flash). Newer firmwares that remember the setting after a drive reset do not have auto-bitsetting as an available patch (because auto-bitsetting was designed to deal with the problem of lost booktype options after reset).

To the best of our knowledge, KS04's bitsetting is not broken, and KS04 also uses the new-style bitsetting that remembers the booktype setting after a drive reset, so neither patch is needed.

14x works only for pressed dual-layer discs (DVD-DL). The drive doesn't seem to like 14x on single-layer media (even though 16x is fine), which is why 12x and 16x are available for single-layer, but 14x is not.

No. OP and EPU are two completely different utilities. OP patches firmwares. EPU works with the EEPROM. OP never interacts with the drive (all it does is edit the firmware file on the computer), and EPU interacts with the drive, loading and saving the EEPROM.

OP's disable media learn can be considered a kind of (well, not really) alternative to reset learn media (it's like applying reset learn media after ever burn, which is usually not a good idea anyway, BTW).

As for crossflashing...
401S@411S: OmniPatcher only
x51S@8x2S: OmniPatcher only
1673S@1693S: OmniPatcher only (for now, at least)
Slimtype drives: OmniPatcher only
401S/411S@811S: EEPROM Utility only
All others: either OmniPatcher or EEPROM Utility
...Note that OP's crossflashing and EPU's crossflashing are different from one another. OP does it on the firmware side of things by disabling the EEPROM checksum. EPU does it on the EEPROM side of things by changing the EEPROM checksum. The end result is the same, though...

Are there any disadvantages of increasing read speed to 16x, or is 12x better?

Noise, mostly. And sometimes, depending on the quality of your media and your drive, 16x might not read as stably, but YMMV. I personally use 12x because it's quieter and because it's really not that much slower than 16x.

Indeed. With the crossflashing patch (which happens to be in the same bank) eating up a third of what little free space there is, we're left with less than a quarter of the space needed for a strategy reassignment patch... so it's unlikely that CS0P will ever support -R reassignment... but... you could use media renaming feature to do a few strategy swaps in the -R bank if you want. Not as elegant as strategy reassignments, but they can serve as a stopgap measure for the time being.

Also, the text below the media list will indicate what media types strat reassignment is currently enabled for.

@CODE,

I have a 1633@1653 CSOP. What would you recommend I set the read speeds at. Please give me what you would use, for all the media types.

Thanks in advance.

Re: OmniPatcher for LiteOn/Sony DVD-Writers (v2.0.0) *NEW*

this drive is not a very good reader!!! I could hardly pass 10X with it !!! So I don't tweak the read speed as the drive can't follow it.

Re: OmniPatcher for LiteOn/Sony DVD-Writers (v2.0.0) *NEW*

The drive not reading above 10x could be a result of a poorly pressed media. I have a disc that cant be read about 11x and if I put another disc in the drive, it can read it all the way up to 15-16x steadily.

Re: OmniPatcher for LiteOn/Sony DVD-Writers (v2.0.0) *NEW*

Personally, I use 16x for -ROM (the default) and 12x for everything else, but that's because I prefer quiet. I set it to 16x for +/-R once when I was copying a bunch of discs, but usually, I keep it at 12x...

...but as I noted above, results vary! The performance that you'll get is the result of how good your discs are and how physically "healthy" your drive is, so test and find out what works for your particular drive unit--how well or poorly other people's drives are at reading their media is not very relevant.

@spark_

No, not the disc quality test. That's testing write quality. To test read quality, run the "transfer rate" test. It'll give you a reading curve. Then use your own judgment whether or not it's good--if your drive makes strange noises and keeps spinning up and down and this is accompanied by big up and down jumps in the transfer graph, then t's not good. It's all very subjective, so just use your gut feeling.

in fact I was talking about double layers medias. With single layer no problem!!!
Today most disc that we rip are most of the time double layers (at least here in my country). The 1633/1653 can hardly pass 10X (mine for sure). I assume that when you say "it can read it all the way up to 15-16x steadily" you refer to single layer medias ???

You've already seen this thread: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=138519 (I can see you've replied to it) As for the 53S, my 1213S@1653S can do 12x. Haven't really tried anything beyond that, though I know that some (not all) people who tried 16x definitely got it past the 10x mark.

(BTW, this discussion about read speed performance is starting to get a bit off-topic... if you want to continue it, please do so in another thread... perhaps even the one above )
