12x DVD-R media do not exist as far as I know. What I had in mind was to over-speed some 8x DVD-R media such as SONY08D1, MXLRG03, and TYG02 to 12x.

Though, I've got enough of MCC 02RG20 and today I gonna try to burn it on 12x... P.S.: I had to download a new version of OmniPatcher before saying it doesn't provide 12x for DVD-R... My fault.

The thing is that I've got an old standalone Samsung DVD-player (DVD811), and this player is quite difficult to get along with, if you know what i mean..? If I use the wrong type of DVD-R/DVD+R discs it won't play off the movie. At one point I did find out something, and that something was that if I slowed down the burning-speed to 2,4 on +R discs, my old Samsung playd the disc without any silly hickups at all. This was back in the good old days, before I bought my 1633S. I've got three different types of DVD+R discs, and I know the disc itself is possible to burn at 2,4, 'cause I've done that with my old LG drive. My 1633 won't do that, burn at 2,4. I've tried the Omnipatcher-trics, but unfortunally with no luck. It reckognizes the discs as 2,4 discs, and it also burns on them, but with the most horrible result , non-playable discs is the result, not even the DVD-ROM drive in my PC will read the discs. This is the three different disc-types I've tried out this on: With this Verbatim disc, I managed to get a couple of OK discs. Drive Type = DVD DUAL Disc Type = DVD+R (Single Layer) Disc MID = 4D 43 43 00 00 00 00 00 (MCC.....) Disc TID = 30 30 32 (002) Nominal Capacity = 4.38GB Manufacturer Maybe = Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 4.0X (Write) This Samsung disc didn't co-operate at all.. Drive Type = DVD DUAL Disc Type = DVD+R (Single Layer) Disc MID = 42 65 41 6C 6C 30 30 30 (BeAll000) Disc TID = 50 34 30 (P40) Nominal Capacity = 4.38GB Manufacturer Maybe = BeAll SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 4.0X (Write) Same goes for this eProformance discs... Drive Type = DVD DUAL Disc Type = DVD+R (Single Layer) Disc MID = 50 52 4F 44 49 53 43 00 (PRODISC.) Disc TID = 52 30 33 (R03) Nominal Capacity = 4.38GB Manufacturer Maybe = Prodisc Technology Inc. SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 8.0X (Write) The only thing.., I'm not really sure if I tried to burn the eProformance-discs on 2,4 with my LG, but i think so. Is there any way to burn discs on 2,4X with my 1633S? Why is it only possible to burn faster, and not possible to slow down a bit (or so it seems..)? I'd be really grateful to any good ideas that might pop up, so don't hesitate if you think you maybe know the answer... ![]() Last edited by code65536; 01-12-2004 at 01:33. Reason: Requested fix

| Re: OmniPatcher for LiteOn DVD-Writers (v1.3.17) in nero on the box to pick burn speed is there no 2.4? also are you using the same disc?(do the mid code match?) i can not understand why burning slower helps unless the media is crap and only burns on slow speeds, also stand alone players are cheap (they prefer low prices) and meida speed is going up, perhaps it is time for a new player and new discs, also do your disc play in other players? Jupp, I know, but this isn't the problem. There's no problem in the editing of the file itself, but when I try to burn a disc in 2,4 the result is not acceptable... ![]() | |

-No player will accept my 2.4 discs made with my 1633, and all DVD-players accepts my 2.4 discs made with my old LG-drive..! -Any discs burnt in higher speed (4x, 8x) than 2.4 works great in all the DVD-players I've tested them on, except from my fav player, my old Samsung 811. I'm a student, and as I've just bought this new LiteOn burner, I can't afford any new DVD-player. Actually I can't see why I should get a new player, it's brilliant in every way, except from the 2.4 issue... Maybe I'd rather go get back my old LG-drive from my brother..? Why the result is better with slow burningspeed? Fewer errors in the output media, easier job for the laserpickup, and close to no error-correction during play-off as the direct result of the slow burning. I know this might sound like crsp for some of you guys, but anyhow I think this is the answer. A similar result goes for CD-burning. There's not enough space, or time, to explain this in details, but I read a test made by professionals using DVD/CD recorders in the high-end area. They performed so called blind-tests, they didn't know what kind of disc they watched/listened to. The result was not as expected; the copies had better performance than the originals, as long as the copy was burnt in slow speed, and the original disc was stored on the harddrive, and not copied "on the fly". This method let's the DVD-ROM drive do all the error-corrections when making a backup on the harddrive. Burning in slow speed makes few new errors, and ... Voila! Superb sound and vision! I think that the old Samsung is picky in one way only; it won't play off discs in bad quality. No damaged discs with chicken-fat fingerprints, and no discs burnt on 4x or higher. Only perfect discs made in 2.4X is accepted, and then I just need to feed the old thingy with her favourite, right? ![]()

| Re: OmniPatcher for LiteOn DVD-Writers (v1.3.17) PNG is Portable Network Graphics. It's the graphical format we use here on cdfreaks because it is very compact and produces excellent quality. When you save a scan, be it with KProbe, Nero CD-DVD Speed or MS Paint, this is the format you should select on the save dialog. I think ajaxas meant read one of two discs with KProbe to see the quality of your burns. You can read about KProbe and how to interpret the scans, in these links: http://kprobe.cdfreaks.com/ http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/147/5 http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread....threadid=80545
