Is this tool likely to make any difference to an 852S drive that no longer reads CDs (but does read DVDs)?

No. The chances are high that the laser used for cd reading does not work anymore. Can you still boot from cds ?

I have been able to once, but it took much longer than I'd expect, with lots of read-resets of the cd.

I'm investigating RMA'ing the drive ... I don't want to have to send the whole laptop away.

Has anyone tried useing OmniPatcher under windows x64?
In my case I also have a nvidia chipset (and nvidia ide drivers) and I have understod that this is not recomended.

What I fear is killing the drive, it was cheap, but still.

And on a sidenote - is it safe to use Original Liteon flashers under X64?

Omnipatcher just patches the firmware file, it does not flash the firmware, so Omnipatcher does not care which driver you use.

So in order to be safe I need patch the firmware with omnipatcher -> extract it with xflasher -> bin file and then use mtk... to flash in dos.

pimposh, are you using a Liteon drive with XP x64? And based on your answer above, if your using OP then you must have flashed the drive, right?

What is going on with the codeguys page?
I am trying to get the BS0S firmware in .bin formate and whatever link i try to connect to their page i times out.
Anyone on this site have the bin file? I am trying to crossflash my Sony DW22a with this firmware because I cannot get it to burn anything!
getting frustrated I must say.
Any help would be great.
