Thanx for this info -thibouille-

Is there any "changelog" for this new version?

For all of you with problem getting the pdf-file down, try a dl-manager like flashGet or ReGet.

This "new" prog is straight forword (as xx.5) so you should´t need this file. (One page with 2pics and 2 rows of text!)

It's the same as before.

Most importantly, there was a bug concerning the manufacturer ID
( both MInfo 1.6 and KProbe 1.1.26 ID-ed it correctly ! ),
which now seems to be fixed :

Not many people out there with an 851S yet because it's so new. I would imagine it should work. But perhaps LiteOn needs to release a new version to be compatible with that new drive.
Hopefully there is someone else out there with the 851S that can try it out (or because the tool is from LiteOn you could try sending them an email asking them if 851S works with it).

For the time being try using one of the other two tools for scanning media. Check the guide in my sig. They are mentioned with the Kprobe tool area and have a link there.

(one last idea, are you sure you have the right drive selected from the drop down menu?)

The SmartBurn Utility supports the LDW-851S. Whenever you see that error it is likely because of an improper installation of ASPI drivers. I used killaspi.bat from ForceASPI to uninstall ASPI altogether and this let SmartBurn use SPTI instead. If you have Windows XP/2000, then you can do the same, but if you have Windows 98/ME then you don't have the option of using SPTI and you'll need to reinstall ASPI or try another version or something.

ASPI and SPTI are just different "drivers" that let software communicate with hardware.

See here for info on ASPI: http://aspi.radified.com

But hang on, isn't 97:27:00 one of the "generic" unassigned ATIP codes? KProbe/SmartBurn should read "Manufacturer Unknown" in this case.

Is it too smart?

It thinks a 4x media (MCC-002) 8x, but the drive produces a coaster. I had to manually override with 4x to get it work.
