New DVD Media Code

I just bought some dvd+r rimedia discs (by e-top)...i couldn't get the high-quality ricoh cos they were out of stock, so got this crappy ones..gonna burn a disc, and see what's it like, supports 8x, but try 4x for start. I was wondering if codeking or whoever, could add the media code for this into all the firmwares, and then i'll try to find the best strat for disc, and if anyone buy these discs, it will benefit them....

Thanks

Re: New DVD Media Code

I just burnt two discs at 4x. Here is my first one, second one is currently about to be scanned. The results are average right? These are very average compared to my ricoh one's i had last time, where average pi was about 0.3 - 0.6 range.
I'm hoping codeking can add the mediacode into the firmwared

vdk_au, POMSI002-01 is crap media to start with.
Anyway, you can start with trying write strategy swaping on your own drive.

But first you have to incorporate this "new media" into your firmware with help of ala42's MCSE though.
Chose a crap media you want to replace. Import (paste your DVD Identifier output) full MID. Save.
Read the MCSE thread and the readme file.
(Note, I'm not sure you are able to do this with c0deguys tools, because it's long time since I played around with my 812 Litey.)

When you done this it's just to try other write strategies with latest OmniPatcher (or MCSE).

Help yourself by helping others.

Nope, not for me and you... Don't think even c0deguys like that work...

I replaced PlasmonCo1 (crap) in my example above.
Highlight the media you wanna replace i MCSE, click "Import", read and klick "okay" on warning, copy and paste the whole MID output you posted in your 1st post, click okay. Done.

Re: New DVD Media Code

IIRC I had good luck with RICOHJPNR-01, YUDEN000-T01 & T02 and PRODISC_R03 when I burned crap media like yours...
Your scan above doesn't look that bad. You should be able to burn POMSI002 crap at 8x.

But all burners burn different so you have to be able and waste some disc.

Post your result in Changing write strategies, results thread.
BTW, look in this thread because your media has already been write swaped long time ago.

Better read some xtra pages then wasting media...
Edit. Try a burn at 8x with POMSI002 default write strategy to start with.

BTW, I see you are able to add new media in OmniPatcher also. But old MCSE is still good enough when you wanna try medias (POMSI002) default write strategy.

Yeah, I know it might sound confusing...

- Initially you burned with "drives/ firmwares" default 4x write strategy appliable for any media type that is not assigned in firmware.
[Note, this write strategy can also be used by other (in firmware present) media types.]

- After implementing media (MID with its write strategies) into your firmware, with help from MCSE, you are now able to burn with medias, POMSI002 default write strategies.

- When you have done the write strategy swap you will be able to burn with the assigned (new medias) write strategy.

I hope I was able to clear this up somewhat... If not, I'm sure c0deguys will do it better.

Re: New DVD Media Code

hmmm...i never got the chance to burn it on the default strat then. i tried ricoh, and yuden. Luckily the ricoh strat didn't make my disc worse.....it looked like the quality was the same before. I might try burning with default strat...but this was the result for the YUDEN000-T01...hoping to change to another strat to get even better..but for the moment, gonna be burn a few more discs and see how it goes...

My discs support 8x, but not gonna worry about that for the moment. When I perfect it with 4x, i'll then try it..but not relying on these crappy discs

Re: New DVD Media Code

I was wondering if it's possible to get the pif and pi's average even better? That recent one i submitted was using the yuden's strat, but I know that it'll get better as more burn's are done..but not much..

I haven't tried using the default strat of my media, but might try another time

Re: New DVD Media Code

Hopefully someone can answer this. Not sure if the scan was done properly, but with my previus scans with these e-top discs, they were really crap. And somehow this burn came out really, and i mean really good. I'll attach another picture. Scannin another burn which i did a few days ago and was crappy.it was gettin a mountain effect at end (like 150+), somehow the scannin at about 5%looks good. Well we'll see when it get's to end

Re: New DVD Media Code

yea.. i finished scannin it..the scans were better, cos i forgot to set it to 4x..i had just installed a new hard drive and forget to change the setting's when installin kprobe. Here are the results with max and 4x reading. But i still can't understand how i got so gud results with the one shown in the previous post. Be gud if all the crappy discs came out like that, btw..using yuden to2 write strat

sorry, but that makes no sense. average and total says just the same thing if you compare discs of same size. and those burns were just fine - PIE avg 16 is good enough result, esp flat like that and with low PIF's. i wouldnt even try to make it better (i'd try 8x though, ofc)
