QS01 is either retail Liteon or ES & is the same build as 6S0F. It's not OEM. I cannot comment on QV3H.

Speculation: It may be that two 523252 drives are released, one series 6 the other series 7. Possibly packaged the same due to marketing, eg 16X DVD-ROM 165H & 166S.

Um, what's the significance of the underlined offsets other than hex code for the asci strings? The key is the 024B build code.

I was probably overly definitive about QS01. QS01 could also conform to previous Liteon OEM FW for TDK or Sony, sans Liteon ID strings. Not quite errant pedantry, but...

Addendum: Has anyone managed to pop open a 7 series drive yet? The PUH is Sanyo, but are there any details on MTK chipset? (Series 6 is MT1518/MT1516)

It will appear all in due time. You're right though, 32x rewriting cannot yet be properly tested. I am curious to see if other aspects of the drive's performance are improved.

tylau,

I agree that after 32x writing all the speed increases are so marginal as not worth the effort considering the loss in quality (IMHO). And the difference between 24x vs 32x (for cdrw) is also very miniscule.

However, the new drive will be available with the new Mediatek chipset and who knows, perhaps with even tweaked firmware or mechanism.

This could (I'm hoping) lead to increased statistical reading accuracy and C2 detection.

regards,
Halcyon

From what I can see, the 7S is writing 24x RW a LOT faster than the 6S (P-CAV), so there is improvement. Other improvements remain to be seen, but I'll wager that the quality of the RW burns at any speed will be better as well. But the fact is that it's a new toy, and most of us don't care if it's faster or not.

A few pictures

I've got the LTR-52327S last week, it's a retail pack, and having the firware version QS03.

The drive is manufactured in May 2003, bundles a Verbatim 16-24X RW (well done for a 32X RW drive) and a Multi-speed CD-R, tegother with an OEM version of Nero Express.

More pictures to come later ... after my DC is charged.

Sweet, a new firmware! If you get a chance, would you mind backing up your firmware and sending it to me? Use mtkflash in DOS of course
