LTR-24102B Does Not Burn After Lead In

I have been following several closely related msg threads. Same problem here.

AMD-1200/133
KT7A Raid
LTR-24102B
5S5A fw
Win98SE
Unit 1 year old
Approx 450 burns

I made several coasters, now working with CDRW. I have received a couple of "Power Calibration Errors" but most of the time I get "SCSI / ATAPI command timeout error". Audio fails at 5% if no CD text attempted, 6% with CD text. Data fails at 17%. All cases fail at "Lead in". I've tried Auto insert off and on. DMA off/on, and disconnect off/on. Have set up primary and then slave, configed "with" HD and with "other" CDRom.

I have taken a suggestion found in a similar thread and went to AHEAD web and pulled a new win ASPI driver layer with manual updates WNA SPI32.DLL to Nero, and updates to win/sys/iossubsys.

I have completely removed all nero s/w and manually deleted all register related 'ahead' and 'nero'. Acomplished a 0 error run on norton obc, physically removed and restored LTR 24102B. All with same result. I have reviewed the nero NeroHistory.log throughout.

I did get one "Slow" burn to work with disconnect not checked, but only one. I have one interesting PM log entry I do not understand that I also received on the one successfull "slow" burn.

PM #8 Text 0 File SCSICMD.CPP, Line 371
SCSI not using temporary buffers
20 out of 20 temporary buffers allocated.

Is this some kind of buffer setting problem?
Or is my unit "write led" fused and the unit dead?

Thanks,
Tom

to all of you!
