LiteOn Fast Burn Dual format and Ultra Fast Burn Patch (12x burn < 6:30)

LiteOn Fast Burn Dual format and Ultra Fast Burn Patch
The Official Thread

Increases the burn speed to allow faster and better quality burns. There will be two versions, FB (Fast Burn) and UFB (Ultra Fast Burn).

Fast Burn
Increases the 8x and 12x +R burn speeds by using the 16x burn curve for the CAV part of the burn. This one produces a 12x burn in around 6:30, which is only 30 seconds slower than a 16x burn and produces very good quality (Release Post).

Fast Burn Dual format
Increases the 8x and 12x +R and -R burn speeds by using the 16x burn curve for the CAV part of the burn. This one produces a 12x burn in around 6:30-6:50, which is only 30 seconds slower than a 16x burn and produces very good quality (Release Post).

Ultra Fast Burn
Increases the 8x and 12x +R burn speeds by using a new 18x burn speed (start speed 7.5x) for the CAV part of the burn. Interestingly this appears to be a similar CAV speed (start speed 7.3x) used by the LG drives, so I don't think it's as dangerous as I first thought, but I must warn those that use it, that it is at the limit of the rotational speed of a DVD, so don't use cheap discs (Release Post).

Read this before you start burning
If your using the 1693S FB firmware, make sure you start off with a couple of 8x burns to allow the drive to learn the new burn method, before trying the 12x burn. If 12x quality is still poor, try a reset learn and then repeat the above procedure.

I will probably do an FB patch only for CS0R, but only as long as everyone promises not to ask for every other favourite 3S version to be patched...

Re: LiteOn Ultra Fast Burn Patch (12x burn < 6:30) (16x burn < 5:45)

ITS X MAS TIME!!!

Mr. Codeking,

Never ever I have a busy day at my work (Dutch government), and today, one of those rare days that I have it a little busy, your new child is born!

I am having problems, and I am sure that I speak for many Lite-on freaks, finding the right words to thank you! I can find my feelings in the words spoken here before: you are the reason that I, without thinking twice, drive to the shop and order Lite-on!

After all those years I only hope that this is the start for a long relationship. I can’t say how much I like, that I am a part of this great community. The last year we saw many go, but I am sure we’ll see our friends back. Lite-on is back in the winning mode!

Mr. Codeking,

I know it is early, but I hope you and your family have a merry X-mas and a super 2006!

Thanks,
Maurice

You have my mail adress, so write me in to do some work for you.
My three 1653's are waiting
(I haven't touched my new NEC's that I've got as a present )

Re: LiteOn Ultra Fast Burn Patch (12x burn < 6:30) (16x burn < 5:45)

Thanks C0deKing, finally my Litey can compete with BenQ's.

Errr... forgot to change max DVD-speed scale, and the date...

MID: MCC-004 (Verbatim 43500, 25-pcs spindle)
Type: DVD+R 16x rated
Burned as: Nero Create Data Disc
Possible burn speed: 16x
Burned at: 16x speed
Burntime: 5:55
Drive/Firmware: SOHW-1693/KS0B_ufb

Edit. Added KProbe scan. Will have to run a transfer rate test to check if this burn is readable at all.

I guess the disc is spinning at 10k+ rpm's when burning, OMG...

Re: LiteOn Ultra Fast Burn Patch (12x burn < 6:30) (16x burn < 5:45)

Okay, anybody wanna try this firmware out better starts with "Fast Burn" patched first. Right now "Ultra Fast Burn" patched seems to be a little to "aggressive", even on good quality media. My burner makes a thick dark ring on disc at ~3.5GB area.
Looks like OPC (or whatever) can't keep up with these high 10k+ speeds, not on my drive anyway.

MID: YUDEN000-T02 (TG001158) Verbatim branded
Type: DVD+R 8x rated
Burned as: Nero Create Data Disc (ISO image 4482MB)
Possible burn speed: 16x (after using OmniPatcher)
Burned at: 16x speed
Burntime: 5:45
Drive/Firmware: SOHW-1693/KS0B_ufb

My fastest Yuden burn ever on a Litey...

Re: LiteOn Ultra Fast Burn Patch (12x burn < 6:30) (16x burn < 5:45)

I got the same result with pinto2, with Ultra Fast Burn (UFB) patch around 5:56 and it's not readable. (yikes)
Need to check with C0deKing after he wakes up.

Verbatim MCC004 burn at 16x with 1693S KS0B_UFB.

Re: LiteOn Ultra Fast Burn Patch (12x burn < 6:30) (16x burn < 5:45)

maybe the 3sv2 aren't able to write at such a high speed.

or the 5s hardware is the only to handle this.
hopefully someone solves that annoying checksum problem.

Another test on MCC004 with KS0B_UFB firmware. Got 5:47 now. I guess C0deKing needs to tweak a little around 3.7gb spot.

RICOHJPNR03 @16x with 1693S KS0B_UFB.

Write time is average, 5:58 and quality is not good.
Will try KS0B_FB now.

Re: LiteOn Ultra Fast Burn Patch (12x burn < 6:30) (16x burn < 5:45)

For people who sent me PMs please wait for C0deKing. I don't have his permission to distribute the "private beta release" KS0B_UFB and KS0B_FB firmwares and he probably has his own reasons not to post the firmwares in this thread. Thanks.

Re: LiteOn Ultra Fast Burn Patch (12x burn < 6:30) (16x burn < 5:45)

Thanks for the tests guys. I have an idea how to improve the UFB 16x burn. I'll post a new firmware later on and I'll advise the other beta testers at that time as well.

In the meantime can we focus on 12x burns (FB and UFB). This was really the main aim of this patch, as the 3S is a marginal drive at 16x anyway. The idea was to make 12x burning much faster, so that we didn't really need to burn at 16x anyway.

@Juhuslik
when the 5s checksum problem is fixed, i think.
with this firmware checksum error caused after patching the drive won't write the lead-out on any disc.
