LiteON DVDROM Drive problem - drive door staying open

I have a JLMS XJ-HD165H LiteON DVDROM drive

Just trying opening it there, sounded like a loose screw rattling around. So just took of the cover too see i could see it no luck.

Put it back together fine, now when the pc is turned on the drive door will open up and stay open.

The only way of keeping the door shut is by holding it closed, until it trys to open.

And it doesn't read dvds now either lol

So guessing something to do with the laser ??

Winxp pro and the bios sees it, on primary slave.

Sounds like the door/tray is not properly aligned when closed. Sounds like an alignment problem period.

Sounds like an switch/sensor problem. I had an simillar problem on an old Samsung cd-rom... (A piece of plastic was worn out/broken of the tray).

If you still got an warranty on the drive, then take it back...

Replace the drive, sounds like a definite sign of internal physical damage. Whether it be a bad tray gear, stuck screw, switch/sensor problem, or bad rubberband or spring causing improper alignment, its really something you shouldn't tamper with too much because if any seal is broken, your drive is warranty void.

The drive is supposed to rattle, so opening in the first place was kind of dumb... But since the damage already have been done open it up again and push the tray in and out and look if there's something in the mechanism that doesn't look like it should. Then attempt to fix it
